I hate making dinner

Does anyone else hate it? Prior to having kids I enjoyed it but now it feels like daily drudgery. I think it's because everyone has specific dietary requirements so no meal is exactly how I'd like to serve it – so lots of deconstructed dinners. Sauces separate; veg all cut up separately with no dressing; hubby doesn't like dairy much; I love cheese; plain food for kids; even though they are almost teens. In fact the kids would be happy with fish fingers, pizza, bolognese and hot dogs on rotation forever… Urgh. It's almost time again!

I'm in my 50s with teens - eldest 17 & am also sick of the daily grind of cooking. Plus the effects of eating stuff I didn't really want in order to ensure dc had meals they would eat. They're v skinny & I always make things they like but often calorie wise too rich for my own needs.
Dh & I recently found out we both have high cholesterol & he's pre-diabetic so we're overhauling our diets in a major way.

I will still need to cook for dc as left to own devices they'd live on utter shite

It's a pain but only for a few more years

I made 7 day meal plans with a note by each day saying where the recipe was if it needed one, attached an extra page to each one with a list of ingredients needed for the weeks menu so shopping for it was easy. I have several now so easy to plan, shop, and not have to think oh bugger whats for tea. Also means any household member can cook too as they know whats on the list and that we have the stuff in to make it. Mix and match the days is easy too.

Yep, I might make dinner on a Sunday for 7pm and they'll say that's too early as they only had lunch at 4pm

Once you have older teens, get them cooking for themselves. In my house there was DS who was a fan of beige food, DD who was mostly veggie, and me who likes meat and hates beige food. Now everyone eats what they like when they like. Very occasionally there’s a clash in cooking times, but then one of us just waits a while, it doesn’t happen often. The only meal I cook for all of us now is Christmas dinner!

That just doesn't work in my house! My asd ds wouldn't bother.

I can't stand it so I don't do it Grin DH and I have chosen not to have DC so we only have to worry about ourselves, and due to our work schedules we tend to eat separately 99% of the time anyway.

I can't remember the last time I actually cooked a proper meal - it was probably for Christmas dinner and even then most of it was pre-prepared and I just shoved it in the oven, lol.

This baffles my mum who always cooks a proper meal for her and my dad every night, lol.

This week I had already done the meal plan when my eldest and I got food sensitivity tests results back which affected what we can eat. On Monday we were meant to have tomato pasta but because of the results one of us had the tomato pasta as planned, one had it with bacon but no sauce, one had no sauce and no mushrooms, one had the sauce but no bacon and no pasta. A complete pain in the arse. Food tests have made out so much harder!
