Tell me about your skincare routine?

Ever since I’ve had my child I’ve stopped taking care of my skin. In the beginning it was due to a lack of time and now it’s due to my child having severe eczema and allergies, so the easier option is to just avoid all products on my face.

My skincare routine was charcoal scrub a fee times a week and a yogurt face mask. Very basic.

What is your skincare routine?

CeRave cleanser morning and night.

At night also use an oil based cleanser if I've worn makeup.

Skin&Me treatment at night.

Moisturiser day and night.
Eye cream day any night.

I use basic products rather than high end but think my skin is pretty good. The one thing I avoid is any alcohol in my serums/moisturisers as I find it drying.

Morning

I cleanse with the Aldi Lacura hot cloth cleanser. (Just rub it into skin then wipe off with a hot flannel.)

Serum (just a basic one from superdrug.)

Moisturise with a lightweight moisturiser (currently Dew Point gel).

If I'm going to be outside during the day I apply sun cream. Garnier do a spray one that can go over or under makeup.

Evening

If I've been wearing makeup I remove it with Sukin oil from Holland and Barrett on a reusable pad then wash off with hot flannel.

Second cleanse with the Lacura cleanser again.

Two or three times a week I use the Aldi Lacura glow toner....just sweep on with a reusable cotton pad.

Richer moisturiser, at the moment I'm just using Simple night cream.

Was a Beauty Pie devotee but having some successes with Trinny London - it’s working and the packaging is lovely, appeals to this skincare magpie 😂

Hot cloth cleanser, glycolic acid pad then moisturiser or serum.

I use a gel cleanser morning and night (the orange one by ELF)

if I’ve been wearing make up - I double cleanse using a cleansing balm (The Beauty Bay one)

Hyaluronic acid (Inkey List) followed by a moisturiser (Olay Whip), eye cream (Clinique) then lastly SPF 50.

I give myself abit of a face massage when I use my cleansing balm.

I’m 36 and my skin is pretty good overall. I don’t use high end products except the eye cream.

I had to look up 'hot cloth cleanser' and had a bit of an eye roll. Isn't this just called washing your face? Haven't people always used a hot cloth to wash their face?

The marketing people are having one over on you.

You have to build your own skincare routine based on:

  • how much time you have

  • your budget

  • your skin concerns - eg acne/rosacea/ageing/discolouration/dullness

I thoroughly recommend Dr Sam Bunting videos and Dr Dray videos on youtube. They both state that less is more, gentle is the way (no scrubby things incl flannels) and most products are overpriced marketing hype.

But here's mine as you're asking. I'm 39 with very white skin prone to redness. I've tried EVERYTHING!

AM
CeraVe or Eucerin cleanser (in shower)
Cetaphil SPF50 moisturiser (even if I'm just near a window!)

PM
La Roche Posay cream cleanser & nivea eye make up remover (with cotton wool at sink)
Paula's Choice 2% salicylic acid OR azelaic acid (for acne/rosacea)
Cetaphil or CeraVe moisturising cream.

Avarua1 · 04/07/2022 22:13

Basic. L'occitane soap in the warm shower. Followed by L'occitane spf moisturiser.

That's it.

I have fantastic skin.

You don't need all that extra stuff.

Avarua1 · 04/07/2022 22:14

I might get botox at some point for squint lines that make me look like I'm grumpy. If I can be bothered.

DappledThings · 04/07/2022 22:49
  1. Wash with sulphur soap in shower as it allegedly helps with rosacea. No idea if it does, seems to flare up less often since I started using it.

  2. Refuse to give a shit about natural aging or anything else related.

  3. Wear sunscreen to prevent burning during Summer.

  4. End of routine.

I suffer from acne if I don't look after my skin properly. Finally have it under control at the age of 37.
Morning
La Roche posay effaclar micro peeling face wash.
La Roche posay effaclar clarifying lotion.
La Roche posay effaclar duo+ blemish treatment.
dermalogica vitamin c serum.
Clinique moisture surge.
Amber solaire face fluid spf50.

Evening
Same La Roche products.
Estee lauder night repair

Footbal · 04/07/2022 23:09

Some nivea soft moisturiser in the morning after my shower, that's it.
