I've noticed a few places offering this, it appears to be done in partnership between an NHS Trust and a university.
DD is thinking about applying and I'm wondering if anyone here has come across it, or similar and can give any insight in to such training schemes in the NHS.

It’s a good way of getting to a band 5 salary quickly. It seems like quite boring work to me, and I’m not sure about progression options without a professional qualification.

It is mostly talking with people with low level mental health issues such as mild depression, anxiety, stress, and advising on things like sleep hygiene, exercise, some basic CBT principles. It could potentially offer good experience if she is a psychology graduate looking to qualify later down the line.

I’m a community mental health nurse for reference, so haven’t done the job but have some experience of it.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. She would be travelling to, and working in, different schools. She’d have to attend the Uni two days a week to learn theory and gain a qualification.

How would you say the work is a bit boring? A bit repetitive?

That sounds interesting to be working in schools. I would say working with adults as a PWP can be a little repetitive and dealing with low level problems, lots of self help advice and handing out worksheets. Anything complicated would be passed to professionals (counsellors, CBT therapists or the CMHT). I imagine the role can be variable in different areas, and I am probably talking as a cynic with too many years working in mental health.

There is a lot of room and need for motivated young people to start work in mental health. Good luck to her.
