Jury service & claiming car parking fees

DH is due is do to start jury service next week. His paperwork says he needs to be available until 8pm every day, so he'll need to pay for all day parking as he can hardly leave every couple of hours to top car up. However, I've been told by a friend who did jury service at same Court a couple of months ago, you can only claim parking fees for the amount of time you're in Court. Is this correct?

Not in my experience. I had to speak to the court clerk on day 1 to explain why I couldn’t use public transport and do school run and get to court on time. It was fine and they paid the car parking. Unlikely he’ll be needed until 8pm. We were dismissed within 10mins of 4pm every day - 2 week trial.

Depends on the car park and the court what the deal is. I was at Manchester Crown Ct last year and they had bar coded tickets they gave out to people using a specific car park nearby which they used to exit without paying. Valid all day so it may no difference what time someone left the car park and there was no need to claim car parking back. Your husband should ring the jury team and ask them about it.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll have to see if they'll speak to me, as he can't take/make external calls unless emergency. He thought about getting the bus to avoid an hour of rush hour traffice, but about 15% don't turn up here and it'll be a case of getting into town, transferring to city and a 30 mins walk.

Is there a Park and Ride anywhere near?

He no longer has to worry about parking. Court just phoned and he won't be needed as they've got too many jurors!
