Why are you awake?

Tell me why you're awake? It's 10 to 4 and I've been up since 20 to 2. I just can't settle. I have lots of physical disabilities and mental health issues and every little noise is sending me paranoid so I then have to check the doors and windows and make sure everything is closed and locked. This takes me some time, as I said, I'm disabled. By the time I've finished I'm wide awake again then I get sleepy, try to settle and the cycle repeats itself. I HAVE to check the doors and windows, it's like a compulsion and if I don't then the voices I hear start too making my paranoia worse.
Added to all that I have DD snoring next to me. She had a nightmare so she's in my bed and my god for someone so little she makes a heck of a noise.

The birds are chirping now too. Why are you up at this ungodly hour?

I'm always awake 😭

Donna1001 · 28/06/2022 04:58

I’ve no idea. Woke up at 3, read for a bit but then got up as it just wasn’t happening.

was awake since 4.30 yesterday morning, so figured I’d be tired enough to sleep through, but my head has other plans.

ill maybe sleep through tonight (Tuesday night) but then back to a similar pattern Wednesday night. It’s been like this for months, so annoying!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 28/06/2022 05:01

I'm awake feeding DS age 6 months. We moved home ti his own room, which has been great, he's sleeping well, but he's just a hungry baby!

@ReeseWitherfork not sure, fireman said fire alarm failed but we did check the regular so not sure if they can use that as an excuse

nonstoprenovation · 28/06/2022 05:12

The dreaded 3.30am wake up.. then I drop back to sleep at about 6am just in time for my 6.45 alarm.

This is a family trait of 3-4am risers and possible hormones for me.

I don't fight sleep, just accept this is what my body needs, and that way I can sometimes get back to sleep.

I also have an elderly dog who potters and huff and snores all night, he's so restless so going to increase his pain medication.

Sending big hugs to everyone really struggling.

nonstoprenovation · 28/06/2022 05:13

@yepmetooo who are the underwriters?? I'm so sorry that must be very stressful.

crochetmylifeaway · 28/06/2022 05:15

I'm in Cyprus on our last full day of holiday in hospital with my 5 year old. It's just gone 7am here and he has some infection or virus and is on iv fluids and waiting in blood tests. I'm exhausted but he has fallen asleep finally so I'm scrolling trying to stay awake and get hold of insurance and holiday reps.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 28/06/2022 05:16

Somebody upset me at work and I'm ruminating on it. Feel a bit ridiculous now - in the grand scheme of things life is pretty good and nothing physical is stopping me sleeping. Going to have a word with myself. Wishing peaceful times to everyone struggling.

A company called integra I've not heard of them before

SunflowerGardens · 28/06/2022 06:09

Hope you're all managing to get an hours sleep now Flowers
OP have you tried making a checklist and when you get up to check the doors and windows physically checking everything off might help calm the urge to check and check again x

Twiddledeedee · 28/06/2022 06:23

And I'm.back up again! I have the snot sucker, 2 different kinds but he hates it and screams and I don't want him to wake the rest of the household.
He wants to he rocked to sleep right now as well.
I hope all of us get some rest and sorry to everyone going through a rough time right now, my issue seems so stupid in comparison.

Lost Mum 5 weeks ago. In many ways I'm dealing with it OK but I have always suffered with vivid dreams and they are now venturing into nightmare territory, involving Mum (who I was with when she died, albeit peacefully - which my nightmares arent)

Some nights I just fear sleep.

Big hugs.

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/06/2022 06:54

So sorry everyone was up. I managed an hour and a half from 5. I put my phone away earlier to try and get some sleep.

I'm hoping I can grab a nap today but it's not looking likely.

Thanks HerRoyalHighness Hope you can get more sleep later.

Thanks Secretrugbyfan So sorry you still have effects of chemo / radio. If its breast cancer are you on those hormone tablets, think they cause insomnia. Such a joy this cancer lark, though at least yesterday was my last chemo so onto radio next which is easier i believe then the hormone tablets for 10 years and 1 or 2 ops but main ops done. Still lovely cancer charity SomethingtoLookForwardTo gave us a week in Cornwall by the sea soon.

Cuwins · 28/06/2022 08:10

@ReeseWitherfork
We are currently co-sleeping for the majority of the night so putting her down isn't the issue but having her snuggled up to my side means I can't sleep on my front!

I generally discourage people from dismissing their own issues just because someone has it worse, but I must admit, I felt the same reading this! I’ve got two 3m old babies so sleep is super rare, but actually isn’t that the nicest reason to be kept awake.

Stick DD in the bathroom while you shower today and get that steam shifting things! Good luck!

@HerRoyalHappiness (and those of you struggling to sleep), Netflix has an interactive headspace show where you can pick “sleep” as an option and there are four different choices (beach, aquarium, train, bookstore with a fireplace) and it plays peaceful sounds (like waves) over someone talking v e r y s l o w l y a n d s o f t l y. Doesn’t always work for me but I have had some success and would generally recommend.

Wasn't on the thread earlier but I was wide awake at 4.30am this morning. It's normally anxiety related and I'm awake 1-2 hours every night.

I know I shouldn't mess about on my phone but i've got into the habit of doing Wordle and the crossword in the early hours.

Silkie.....mine is throat cancer...Mrs SRF is dealing with breast cancer (via a mastectomy and Tamoxifen ATM) so I sort of understand what you are going through. Have a lovely holiday in Cornwall when it comes and I hope your overall prognosis is a positive one.

Silkierabbit · 28/06/2022 14:24

So sorry Secretrugbyfan that both you and your wife have cancer and she must be relatively young on Tamoxifen (well pre menopause but that seems to make you young for breast cancer, I am the same as you feel like a young person again there). My prognosis is about 90% chance of surviving 5 years, 75% surviving 10 now I have done chemo so not great but could be much worse. Presumably your wife if she avoided chemo prognosis is hopefully not too bad, I hope your prognosis is not too bad with throat cancer.

The charity SomethingToLookForwardTo online is worth trying if you have a family, income effected etc and a break or meal out would help. They have been really kind with me giving me a boat trip in Lakes, night in Symonds Yat and now a week in 4 bed Cornish cottage. Hopefully one day can do something active and raise it back for them but rather dead atm after chemo but their kindness really helped get me through these very bleak times.
