Dental Implant?

Does anyone have one? Did you previously have a bridge or a gap?
what sort of cost for one front tooth?

Bupa dental care website just says ‘ From ‘ £1995 so I know it is going to cost a LOT more.
I don’t have the money, can’t afford it but I can’t live with a missing front tooth! The bridge keeps failing and falling off and my confidence is crushed. Help!

Needing a bone graft hadn’t occurred to me. My tooth was removed some time ago so it seems likely then.

I hadn’t thought about payment plans, that makes me feel a little hopeful.

Brighton a tad too far! location wise, if anyone has used a place within 45 mins from Manchester I’d be interested, it would take me 30 mins to Manchester so wouldn’t want to go too far over an hour in total.

off to Google to see who, other than Bupa, in my area offer them.

I'm in the process of this at the moment OP. I too have had my top front tooth removed due to a massive cyst, which unfortunately destroyed all the bone. I'm still recovering from that surgery, and next I need a bone graft. And then the implant. The whole process will probably be about a year. I have to wear a plate now with a falsie and it's just awful. Next week I find out if the two teeth either side have made it, but I'm thinking not as they are lose and really sensitive.

The bone graft will be taken from my lower jaw and into my top front jaw. Anyone who has had this done, what was the recovery time please? My first op was just awful.

I never asked the surgeon the lifespan of an implant, I just assumed it was forever 👀

"Did they tell you how long it is expected to last? I’d hate to take out a loan and end up having to replace it in 6 years or something, someone mentioned in passing they’d been told 10 years but Google is saying 20-30"

I had mine before I got married, which makes it over 22 years and haven't even considered that it might need replacing. Wasn't done in the UK though, and it's a pre-molar, not a front tooth So I guess the bone is a bit thicker.

I actually won’t need a bone graft
my dentist said if I did it would be around £500
but because it’s only just happened I won’t need one
my dh would need one and it could cost as much as 1500 as he had his tooth taken out years ago
apparently the longer the tooth’s been out the more chance you have of needing a bone graft
mine was only taken out 2 weeks ago so I won’t need one according to my dentist when he saw my dental scan

postitnot · 27/06/2022 18:40

If you're in south manchester, my dentist does implants

my friend had one there and she was very happy.

I do remember feeling really upset about having a plate too, it had quite a psychological effect, the taking it out and putting it in a glass at night -I was only 30-ish! mind you, I’d give anything to have that back right now instead of this gap! I hope the other two either side turn out to be okay for you, it sounds like you’ve had an awful experience so far Sad I know it seems terrible now but you will get your smile back Flowers

If I have to pay up to £1,500 just for the bone graft then it’s game over. I cant afford that on top of an implant. I honestly assumed they would just last forever until I heard someone say 10 years. It didn’t occur to me that they could deteriorate in some way.

I swear if DM points out her missing premolar (the closest to the molars one) to me one more time I will scream. It’s nothing like having your front tooth missing!

If you haven't got the money interest free cc is the way to do. If you can get one there are some at 24 months. I used a 30 month one when I 2 implants. Used the card then threw it away so only that one item could be on it.

Op, have a look at these icedentalimplants.co.uk/. Prices start from around £1400 if a student does the implant. This is a qualified dentist who is doing a masters in implant dentistry, and is supervised by a professor. You need a referral from your own dentist

DentalDisaster · 28/06/2022 15:54

I hadn’t thought about CC, that’s a possibility.

I’m not sure about a student doing my implant tbh.
My root canal was done (3 attempts) by a student at Liverpool.
I have to say it was only at the last appointment that I fully understood he was a student. He didn’t have anyone watching over him for any of the appointments and when I turned up for the 3rd one he hadn’t even put me down for an appointment and strolled in half an hour after my appointment time! It was the receptionist that said he was a student, I wish I’d never let him touch my tooth.

Mine is 3k. Failed root canal and infection left quite a big hole so implant didnt integrate so had to come out. More grafting material et put in. process is now over 12 months will be be another 4 months before they try again
its been a complete pain

sunshinesupermum · 28/06/2022 18:23

I did the same as Pedallleur for financing.

Totally understand if you don’t want a student to do it. You can also book with one of their staff implant dentists for c£1800 and a professor for about 2400. You pay in stages as you have treatment. Mine cost a bit more as I had to pay for extraction and a temporary denture.

Hi. I'm having 2 implants on 3 teeth, due to be started next week. Had a bridge but it failed so now big gap and uts dreadful. Do the implants hurt? Absolutely dreading it but It's either that or false teeth on plate :(

Pedallleur · 09/08/2022 08:01

It didn't hurt but it was 90 mins of lying under a sheet with a hole for the mouth. Has to be sterile area. Dentist gowned/masked. I was aware of the drill going in my upper jaw but that's the vibration. I had plenty of anaesthetic. It isn't a pleasant experience but it was only 90 mins and that involved removing 2 teeth. I tell my daughter she must not neglect her teeth. Only get one set for the rest of her life.

Bluevelvetsofa · 09/08/2022 09:03

I’ve been quoted somewhere north of £6000. I have a partial denture, but the dentist would like to do something more permanent. It’s back teeth at the top and the bottom ones are not fantastic, so it would be a good thing to do. Unless I win some money, it won’t be happening though.

DorisWallis · 09/08/2022 09:59

Following this as I'm having the same problem
Good to hear from some positive stories, it's reassuring, thank you

TheFlis12345 · 09/08/2022 10:32

I just got a quote last week, it’s one implant but it will have 2 teeth on it. Including extraction, quite a significant bone graft and a temporary denture it’s coming to £3750 but it is quite a high end private dentist.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 09/08/2022 10:43

My implant may fail due to now having osteoporosis which degrades your bones and of course the implant is screwed into your jaw bone. I have to be scrupulous with my cleaning regimen and dentist keeps a close eye on my jaw bone with regular x rays. I paid 2k several years ago when implants were less common.

Amazongirl9 · 09/08/2022 10:57

i had my 2 front teeth implanted. Cost about 6k without bone grafts but the dentist included a free redo if they failed. They are about 5 years old now and going great. There was a cheaper implant specialist but he was confounded over what to do regarding temporaries. Plus I felt more comfortable having a dentist I could see for check ups etc who had done the surgery. He would not touch anyone who smoked though as he said they often fail.

Amazongirl9 · 09/08/2022 11:02

I would agree it’s not a pleasant experience, lots of vibration, I found it quite arduous. But was fully numbed up so not painful but quite a trial. He did offer sedation for an extra charge but said most people cope well without it.

Mers30 · 09/08/2022 12:24

Good to hear all went OK! What's the recovery like? I have heard some horror stories and dreading the pain and swelling after!

justasking111 · 19/08/2022 15:01

I spent around 20k for implants and bridgework years ago it's actually cheaper now. I don't regret it

Less pain than a filling needed, no swelling. One tooth I bizarrely had a black eye
