This table with these chairs?

No replies in Home Decoration, so trying here.

Do these chairs go okay with this dining table? The ivory version of the table.

I know there are matching chairs, but £1200 is a bit over my budget, plus I'm not sure I want complete matchy-matchy.

But are the teal green ones too mismatched?

Thanks.

I wouldn't put them together, no. The table looks more like a casual kitchen table and the chairs look a bit more formal than that. In my opinion, anyway.

Justthisonceharold · 26/06/2022 21:31

I don't think they would go OP, sorry. The styles are so different, but also the oak veneer of the the table and the beech legs of the chairs might look odd. They're similar in tone but not the same, so might look mismatched rather than complement each other.

Travellingraspberry · 26/06/2022 21:33

I really like the colour combinations but only reservation is the table has an oak top and the chair legs are beech. I'm not sure how they'd sit together

If I’m honest, I don’t think they match at all. The table is a bit farmhouse and blocky; the chairs have more of a mid-century feel to them. I do think the white is a bit too bright to go with with the chairs - can you get to an M&S to test them together?

I like the chairs a lot, the table not so much.

carefullycourageous · 26/06/2022 21:34

I personally really do not like upholstered dining chairs as they get grubby and look old quite quickly. So I would rethink the chairs.

(You can get lovely vintage tables and chairs for less)

Skinterior · 26/06/2022 21:35

No - the wood shade mismatch doesn't work

Skinterior · 26/06/2022 21:36

Unless. It's going in a room with a range of woods in there already, then it might work

Notagain76 · 26/06/2022 21:37

Nope

tabletalking · 26/06/2022 21:42

Great, I'm glad I asked! Thank you.

What about this table with those chairs then?

Still oak, but perhaps lighter than the table top of the other one?

Much prefer that one. The leg angle complements the same on the chairs.

Happydays321 · 26/06/2022 21:45

I think that works.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 26/06/2022 21:51

If you have that sort of money to spend, why not look on Ebay for an Ercol Plank dining table? Vintage so environmentally sound and should hold value for resale. Or just search for Mid Century Modern and you'd get loads of options.

tabletalking · 26/06/2022 21:59

@IGoWalkingAfterMidnight

I have vouchers for M&S and possibly access to a further discount.

Next question... if I opted for the second table with the teal chairs, would that be wooden overload in my kitchen? There are already various wood tones, which is why I had picked the cream table originally.

Would some sort of rug help with that?

You can have mismatched woods. I think it looks fine. I think the first table and the chairs look ok together. They don't match but the don't need to really. I prefer the look of the first table over the second table so I'd probably choose it and have slightly mismatched chairs

OompaLoompaa · 26/06/2022 22:35

I have the table with the matching chairs and it’s more of a kitchen table.

tabletalking · 26/06/2022 22:55

@OompaLoompaa it's for in my kitchen.

I don't think the wood overload would be an issue. you could use a table cloth if you find it bothers you.
