So I took my son who is 6 to the hellamega concert to see green day. Had permission from school all great. We had a brilliant time. BUT when everyone left we had to leave through the same gate not like when we went in. Trouble is my coach from London to Bristol was behind the metal gate they wouldn't let us out of. The crowd were amazing gave us room trued to help. In the end missed our coach with was a rubbish company and had over booked anyway. I had to get a taxi back £300 wasted.

Now I have a school trip that I have to attend with my son who has been on repeat about it. So hes going to tell the school and teachers whilst I sit and try to hide. Help me someone swap with me please

Seems it depends where it is which doesn't make a lot of sense to me

It depends on the insurance policy of each venue.

Aah ok. I was thinking it was to do with bad language etc. thank you

Tickets are for 5 and over with a adult in the seated area. It was a brilliant concerte. It was the fact that the bus company left without us. We then were stuck trying to find a way back nothing was open to get food for him. Then ended up getting a taxi. It wasn't really rubbish and embarrassing. But I guess hopefully not a big deal.

I’m totally baffled by this. We were at HellaMega in London (it was awesome) and all the gates were open. It was superbly organised with crowd control stop/start signs to ensure the flow of people from all directions. No idea which gate you were talking about as all of the entrances were open as exits.

Us too and no problems getting out, no gates closed or big queues. Very confused about the OP.

purplecorkheart · 26/06/2022 22:55

I can't imagine that anyone will think anything other not envy you having to pay so much for a taxi.

Overthebow · 26/06/2022 22:57

also confused as to why it would even be a huge embarrassment. And why your DS would need feeding on the way home at 11pm. There was food at the venue during the concert, open the whole time from 4pm, and food trucks outside upon exit.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 26/06/2022 22:58

@Overthebow I’m also impressed op got a coach as ours was cancelled when the government requisitioned all the coach company’s coaches and drivers to help with the train strike (which was the reason we’d booked a coach rather than train)! We ended up driving an 8 hour round trip and got home at 4.30am. Totally worth it though!

GettingStuffed · 26/06/2022 22:59

My daughter went to the concert and loved it, they stayed overnight and got the coach back to a seaside town not a million miles from Bristol. Was this a Bakers Dolphin coach trip?

JaneInTheJungle · 26/06/2022 23:03

It's not even a slight embarrassment though, never mind a huge one.

Teachers on school trips are quite busy so probably won't be that interested in your 'mother and child miss bus' story.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2022 23:07

Infact @Buzlightyear1 you should be very proud that you got yourselves home. It must have been a bit scary and confusing for you as well as frustrating.
London to Bristol is a long bloody way.
Give yourself a massive congratulations. Seriously. I am not being sarcastic.
You did it. You got home. 🙂

TeenPlusCat · 27/06/2022 07:12

OP. You need to reframe it to yourself and him as an 'adventure'.

as in 'wow that was a bit of an adventure. as we couldn't get to the coach we had a taxi to ourselves alllll the way back, you'll never get to do that again!'

Shitscared123 · 27/06/2022 08:08

Is this actually a stealth boast about spending 300 quid on a taxi? Seems to be a lot of drama about nothing.

Porcupineintherough · 27/06/2022 08:12

Nothing small children like more than to remind everyone about the time "mummy made a mistake". And we all make them...

Honestly, you did a good thing. No need for embarrassment.

Ohrwurm · 27/06/2022 08:15

I don't understand what the problem is at all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Plumbear2 · 27/06/2022 10:05

People miss buses all the time op. Even if your kid does mention it it will be a completely none event to them.

Itwasntmeright · 27/06/2022 10:11

So? You missed your transport because it was too difficult to get to in time with the crowds. Have you never missed a bus or a train before? I’d be annoyed about the extra expenditure, but I’d be laughing about it, not getting all upset and embarrassed about it.
