He's recently (in the last 2 months) started a new job in a junior management position. He was part of the team that opened a new store. It all seems to be going well and he's caught the eye of the regional manager.

Apparently they have asked for him by name to help open another new store and the local manager, whilst sorry to lose him feels she has no choice but to let them take him.

On the face of it, it seems a great opportunity to continue building his name. However, the job is 25 miles away and a 35 minute drive, when the traffic is clear it involves a stretch on the M25 so there's a significant time and cost implication for him.

There is talk that they "might" be able to pay travel for the 2 months he's supporting the opening, which obviously he will push for, but they're also dangling the carrot of a promotion if he stays there permanently. It's unclear if he's actually guaranteed a job to return to at the local store.

For context, his current rate of pay is 12p/hr so not bad for a youngster with few qualifications but not much if you're incurring a lot of expense to get to work. Also shifts start at 5am, so it's a 4am start for him.

So, great opportunity, grab it?

They're treating him really shoddily, he needs to push back?

Only there 2 months, no employment rights, he doesn't have much choice? This is true but if he's been identified as a strong member of staff, you'd think they want to keep him?
