Hot Yoga

Has anyone tried this and if so what’s it like? Heard about a new place opening near me and tempted to try it but not sure if 37 degrees will just be sweaty and disgusting.

I've done hot yoga for years. It's really exhilarating and challenging- as much cardio as strength and flexibility - but the heat feels good. We have men and women of all ages and abilities in our class. No one bats an eyelid if you just chill out in child's pose if you get too hot.
I hope you love it

PS we do have a yoga topic on here 💡

It was invented by a pervert who liked seeing women in small clothes getting sweaty.

There is no plausible health benefit.

I tried it as I love heat but found the lack of fresh air problematic.

I love hot yoga. It enables you to go deeper into the stretches as your body relaxes. Also it clears your mind as you can only think about your postures and how hot/sweaty you are.

I love hot yoga. Would recommend you get a proper yoga towel to cover your mat (this sort of thing www.yogamatters.com/products/yogamatters-the-grippy-yoga-mat-towel?variant=31921267114051&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwh-CVBhB8EiwAjFEPGQA_Jgq3LFnwpkSeMTNza_SPzkKPZQYcjFC3M1QvfV6F5lgC-p__5BoCSbYQAvD_BwE). A normal towel over your mat is also an option. You need something or you'll be slipping everywhere.

I used to do this years ago and absolutely loved it. It takes some getting used to though! I found if I did a 6am class, I'd feel wonderful for the rest of the day.

fabicelolly · 26/06/2022 21:41

Thanks all, think I’m going to give it a go!

I have done it a few times been practicing yoga for about 8 years and my family teach it. I don't like hot yoga for a yoga practice, most studios I've gone to have no philosophy it's just very physical (my experience of 3 studios only!) and I hate having to wash my hair after! But if you want a work out it can be good for that.

I prefer non hot vinyasa or longer hold yoga, I always end up sweating anyway!

redandyellowbits · 27/06/2022 22:34

I love it and feel very cleansed afterwards!

It is SO tiring, I take a massive water bottle filled with ice to get me through the session and try to drink more throughout the day before I go to my class. You will get very very sweaty though so an extra towel is a must, as is a hair wash afterwards.

Lellochip · 27/06/2022 23:14

Tried it once. In between booking the class and actually going, the instructor left her studio. Ended up doing it in her lounge, surrounded by many many space heaters. Not sure it was the most authentic experience Hmm

TheWayoftheLeaf · 27/06/2022 23:41

I tried it and hated it. After a while I felt a bit faint and breathless and had to leave because It was just so stuffy.

I didn't find it helped with focusing on breath etc as I couldn't bloody breathe!

Overtired201984 · 27/06/2022 23:49

I’ve always wanted to try it , but I’ve always wondered if it creates more germs as I get Ill at the drop of a hat

prinnycessa · 27/06/2022 23:50

I do it weekly, absolutely love it!

ChagSameachDoreen · 28/06/2022 07:49

Horrible.

It's dangerous as the heat allows you to stretch your muscles too far.

Plus the man who invented it was a pervert.

The instructors are oddly robotic.

It's a very "western"-targeted form of yoga, even though it was founded by an Indian guy.
