Any wfh in an office and have a desk there for (secondary) dc for their homework too?

As the title suggests, I wfh. I'm considering how to manage dc1s first year on secondary and think the biggest concern is homework.

Their primary is homework-lite, with it all possible to complete in one hour once a week at the weekend. Dc reads every night for pleasure on top.

They have a desk in their bedroom, but I think it will be too much to send them off to that each afternoon to complete their homework with no guidance/support.

I did consider giving over the kitchen table as that's closer to me, less tucked away alone. But then considered whether it would make more sense to just put a second desk in my home office.

I'm logged on for work til 5pm (flexible though so early/late finish as needed) but the work isn't meetings based or confidential so no concerns there. Just thinking at least I'm there for her to bounce questions off etc.

Anyone got this sort of set up at home?

We don't, we just have desks in every room. My secondary age kids don't want our help and consider us to either know nothing or to know too much and so are no help.

Even in those first few weeks of y7? I've no doubt thay by year 8 they'll be off doing their homework wherever best suits them.

But I did think that those early months they surely need a bit more supervision?

DD comes home has a snack and a break, does her homework and I check it when I get home or am there to talk it through. If she didn't do it then we would have to think of a different system but give them independence at first and let them find their way.

I am self employed with a home office with 2 desks as I have an employee 2-3 days, so during lockdown when the employee wasn't in, DD did all of her school work on that desk and did mostly normal school hours due to that.

Now, she uses the desk for her homework, as there isn't room for a desk in her bedroom and she finds that she focuses better when she uses the desk and desktop computer

Homework should not be so difficult students need lots of parental input. Homework should build on what has been completed in class. Unlike when we were at school it will probably all be completed online. Link BBC bitesize to their browser so they can complete independent research if they need to or a rev unsure of anything.

We have a study with 3 desks and DH works at home full time. DC1 does her homework there but DC2 prefers the dining table. We haven't found DC have needed much supervision/prompting but they have needed help on a few occasions e.g. they do Maths via a website that expects answers in a very specific format.

I have no input into my yr 7 childs
Homework. He is neither genius nor saint. Its just not how school set it up. They know what they need to do and by when. If they forget they have an app or a planner to check. And they are expected to manage that independently just like making sure they have the right kit on the right day.

I occasionally get asked for some help. But he does what he can and when i finish
Work we finish the bit
He was stuck on. We have three desks in the house but he usually chooses a dining table.

You may need to dip
In from time to time. But sitting side by side whilst they do it is no longer the norm at that age id say.
