Hand luggage packing tips

I'm off to Greece for a week and am wanting to take hand luggage only to minimise airport chaos. No kids, and our allowance is the standard cabin size bag and 10kg. So I'm thinking it should be possible.

I won't be doing anything specific, just sightseeing, eating out I'm the evening and lounging by the pool/sea.

I'm going to get some compression packing cubes, use solid toiletries where possible and buy sun cream at the airport post security. Any more tips to maximise my allowance?

Also, I have a hard wheelie case and also a soft rucksack that both meet the requirements. Any thoughts on which would be better to take? I'm pretty fit (and hike with a tent etc), so carrying 10kgs on my back is fine

Order toiletries from Boots and click and collect post security.

Love this idea! Thanks!

They don't seem to offer click and collect at Manchester airport.

It’s at terminal 1 and 3 (or used to be) postcode is M90

I think click and collect was suspended at Manchester because people weren’t getting thru security in time to collect. It might have changed now

Yes it’s much easier than hold luggage

pack flip flops, wear shoes to travel

Generally 5 of each basics is plenty, and gives you enough to rinse things like underwear, dry, re wear.

😩

I'm packed with room to spare.

2 costumes, 5 dresses, 1 pair of shorts, 2 T-shirts and 2 coverup pool things. 9 pairs of knickers.

1 pair of flip flops, swim shoes
and no toiletries.

I can also take a 'laptop' bag which has empty chilly bottles, passports and all the iPads etc.

Packing cubes are a flipping miracle

Well done, Fruitstick!

How much do the bags weigh?

They never even weigh the case as you can check in on line so if you use those vac pac things you can take more 🙄

Wear the heavier bulkier things on the plane. You need the see through clear bag form toiletries but can get at airport. Supposed to only be 1 but I had 2 and nothing was said.

By mini toiletries as under 100mls and take less room. Make up needs to go in plastic bags to.

TUI and Ryan air have both weighed mine.

My hand luggage has been weighed on all the flights I've taken recently. It's not uncommon for hand luggage to be put into the hold at check-in or the gate if you have a full flight, so if your aim is to avoid this then take the rucksack rather that the suitcase.

Just take much less than you normally would. I did a week in Norway and what I took would have fit in my handbag.

I travelled in jeans, linen shirt, linen blazer, lightweight lace-up boots, silk scarf. Packed linen t-shirt, sleeping T-shirt, pants, swimming costume, couple of colourful necklaces.

Because the jeans were dark and everything else neutral it worked for all scenarios day to night including sightseeing, nice restaurants and posh hotels. The necklaces and scarfs were enough to shake it up a bit. Natural fibres, so nothing got smelly/dirty and just needed to be aired out overnight. Hotel had nice toiletries so I just took toothbrush and mini toothpaste, block deodorant, mini tube of face cream with sunblock.
