What body shape would you prefer to be? Apple or pear?

So I am an Apple shape, bit of a tummy but thin arms and legs ( small boobs too 🙄) I would rather be a pear shape as I would love to have a smaller waistline and be able to wear nice fitted top. I wouldn't care about having thicker legs however my friend told me that she'd love to have my 'skinny' legs and arms as she can't get boots to fit. I guess were never happy. What would you rather be if you could choose ?

I am an apple and wouldn't choose it because it is less healthy to carry weight around your middle.

I look OK when slim. Currently I am right in the middle of a healthy bmi but still have a bit of a tum. If I put on any weight then I look pregnant.

I we had the choice then I would choose to be an hourglass shape.

I’m a watermelon. I’d go for pear every time as having a waist means you look feminine, whereas when you’re round nothing looks good. I don’t even have thin arms and legs, I’m just a chunk all over.

UnOeufIsEnough · 25/06/2022 23:04

@underneathleaf your comment about your lower body looking like it belongs to a different person struck a note...I could be way off base, but have you ever looked into lipoedema? Later stages can look a bit scary but stage 1 can look like a pear shape. It's not necessarily a progressive condition.

I'm slim but I'm an Apple shape. I find that I have to keep my weight a bit lower or I end up looking like an egg on two cocktail sticks (thanks mum...). Saying that it's quite easy to dress an apple - I've got good legs so a looser top and slim jeans look nice and I look good in shorts or skirts. You can also hold in your stomach a bit but you can't really hold in your arse.

But I would have preferred to be an hourglass or pear. It's just a more womanly shape and healthier too, I think the slim waist and wider hips is just a 'sexier' aesthetic and is certainly more in fashion now. It also looks better if you gain weight I think.

So there are pros and cons to each really but I guess the important thing is to be healthy and dress for the body you have.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 25/06/2022 23:43

I used to be a pear but now middle age spread has set in and I appear to have turned into a papple.

CluelessHamster · 25/06/2022 23:50

I'm an apple and would prefer any other shape as clothes hang so much better on a flat stomach and I wouldn't have been asked many times when the baby was due which used to upset me so much when I was young. The first time was when I was in sixth form and a (pre vanity) size 12 but I still had a tummy on me! It's also the least healthy shape as others have said. I'm so happy my DD has inherited the leaner shape of the women on her dad's side.

Bunty55 · 25/06/2022 23:52

I have no idea what shape I am. I'm not bigger at the top than the bottom but I'm not hourglass as my waist is not tiny. Legs are decent. Could do with toning up a bit and maybe losing a few lbs. I would like a breast reduction and that would prob make me a pear.

QueenB5 · 25/06/2022 23:53

I’m pear, I absolutely hated it when I was younger. Nowadays it’s the style to have a tiny waist and big behind. I spent years hiding my waist and bum and now I’m past it they’re in style 🙈

SallyWD · 25/06/2022 23:55

I'm a pear and have often envied apple shaped people. It seems like they only put weight on their tummies and everything else (bum, legs etc) remains slim. I've always been a bit self conscious about my big bum. I really feel it's out of proportion to my top half. And my thighs are too chunky. However on the plus size I like having a fairly slim waist and I do like the curve of my body (goes in at the waist and curves out at the hips). I think that's quite feminine.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 25/06/2022 23:58

I’m a pear.
carrying a few extra pounds atm but when I’m at my target weight I like my shape. I do have chunky thighs though!
but wouldn’t want to be an apple, also would not want big boobs.

TheOGCCL · 26/06/2022 00:23

I think a Pear is more of a fashionable shape now that big arses are in, it's also more healthy not to carry visceral fat round your vital organs.

I'm an Apple which I don't mind and I think means you notice immediately if you need to lose weight, but ultimately I'd just like longer legs.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 26/06/2022 00:28

I'd rather be a pear than apple I think

I'm all ties and hips whatever that is 🙄

Homelander42 · 26/06/2022 00:34

I'm an hour glass (broad shoulders, narrow waist, wide hips) and I've always just kind of worked with what I have. I know what I like and what looks good on me. And I know what to avoid. I can't say I've ever felt the desire to change my shape, although I have longed to be thinner.

The only thing I wouldn't want is to have a naturally large bust. I have never had a large bust, even when pregnant. Seeing just how many women struggle with being uncomfortable, trying to find decent bras and being letched at all of the time, has made me glad I didn't have to suffer the same.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/06/2022 07:17

My figure type is stick (well plank now) - I would have been happy about a waist when I was younger.

dudsville · 26/06/2022 07:25

I was a stick until and throughout my 20s. I never liked that, didn't feel feminine. In my 30s i was a pear and didn't like that either. In my 40s I was hourglass, never felt so feminine, loved that. I'm my 50s I'm trying to lose weight. I'm edging towards pear again where i know I'll stay even though it'snot as flattering, at least I'm a big fan of one of the body shapes staples - the fit and flare dress.

user1471517095 · 26/06/2022 07:27

I'm a Pear. I ponder on Kim Kardashians wardrobe (not on her style choices though) and wish I too could get mine tailored because nothing fits properly over my hips and bum. And usually the waist gapes and I have to cinch in with a belt so that the line of the clothing is spoiled.

Rinatinabina · 26/06/2022 07:30

Pear, but tbh I’m a pear with chunky arms and legs but in the right clothes I can look a bit smaller than I am, only thing I really like about my body is my waist.

I think apples can look really good though, slim arms and legs, would kill for that. Would never wear sleeves.

Belledan1 · 26/06/2022 07:35

I am apple. Always had a big tummy. I know it's not the best shape to be. My friend who is hippy and says her bum is big thinks its easier to change your shape being apple than her shape. But I find it hard and rather be her shape.

carefullycourageous · 26/06/2022 07:38

Either is fine, people of all shapes look nice. I would take a healthy body of any shape over an unhealthy body of any shape!

BogRollBOGOF · 26/06/2022 07:39

I'm a pear and generally like it. Having a small top half means people tend to underestimate my size. Chub rub hurts though! I wore the wrong shorts to parkrun recently and my thighs were sore within a mile, and after 3 miles... let's just say that I'm glad I put sudocrem on before going in the shower... the scabbing wasn't fun either. I'm only size 10, but my surplus goes to my thighs, bum and CS overhang below my belly button and it's enough to rub and be bulky.

Getting trousers is a PITA (it has been known to be literally). I need a high rise so my buttocks can't escape, but I do have a waist and it's rare to find a good fit. By the time I size for my thighs, most trousers are cavernous on the waist and there's a weird saggy zone at the back.

While I fantasise that a bit more hourglass would give me enough bust to balance out lunch and not trigger pregnancy rumours, it is good to have it easily tameable for being active!

angieloumc · 26/06/2022 07:40

I'm a potato. But would love to be a pear.
