Which supermarket for the best fruit?

I have just been to Tesco and the shelves are practically bare. There were a few green bananas, no melon, mushy strawberries. I have found that with Tesco a lot recently.

I went to Asda last week and they had lovely packs of prepared fruit and a much better selection in general.

Where do you go for a good range of fruit that lasts?

Whenever I have fruit from
M and S it is utterly delicious. I usually shop in Aldi and find their fruit pretty good.

ISeeTheLight · 25/06/2022 10:49

M&S is fantastic but pretty pricey.
We like Morrisons - very good quality for the price.

M&S
Asda and Aldi

Oh yes you can’t beat M&S. I love their red grapes. Unfortunately, the store near me has closed and the nearest is too far away to shop there regularly.

M&S, particularly for ripe peaches etc. that are actually ripe, and for the luscious U.K. grown black cherries, which should be in season soon. 😋

Wallabyone · 25/06/2022 10:57

I get my shopping from Sainsburys and M&S, the fruit is usually very good and doesn't go mushy the second you've got it home!

AgapanthusLove · 25/06/2022 11:01

Aldi - we've been having delicious ripe nectarines & local strawberries from there. I'm looking forward to the cotton candy grapes soon.

Other than that M&S

I don't buy fruit anywhere else

SweatyChamoisPad · 25/06/2022 11:01

I don’t anymore. I go to the market. It’s not logistically possible for everyone, but it’s the only place that has several green grocer stalls, all selling a wide range of fruit and vegetables, and it’s cheaper than the supermarket by about a third off most things. I also get my fish and a lot of my meat from there.

brokenandbrokenx · 25/06/2022 11:03

I shop online with Ocado and they sell M&S which I always pick instead of the own brand ones because you can't beat the deliciousness of them 😋

Crunchymum · 25/06/2022 11:16

I check Sainsburys first and it if looks good then I'll get it there. If not then I pay a bit more in M&S (my youngest is on a strict medical diet and is limited to berries fruit wise so I buy a lot and M&S is the lost consistent.

Crunchymum · 25/06/2022 11:17

*most

bigbluebus · 25/06/2022 11:25

Local market stalls are far better than supermarkets. Better quality produce straight from the wholesale markets or home grown by the stall holder.

RandomQuest · 25/06/2022 11:31

Whole Foods are the best. M&S is up there too. Asda is surprisingly good and Waitrose surprisingly disappointing.

candyflossxox · 25/06/2022 11:35

M and s and Tesco

SirenSays · 25/06/2022 11:36

Lidl here often have better fruit than Sainsbury and M&S
I buy most fruit from a local Asian grocery shop. We went yesterday and bought huge punnets of fresh cherries, strawberries and grapes. Cheaper and nicer than any I've ever had a from a major supermarket.

Pedallleur · 25/06/2022 12:02

Local market or a large continental store that sells rice, mangoes, Indian/pakistani foodstuffs, herbs, ingredients. M&S are nice but £3 for some raspberries when I can 3 of the same size for half the price on the local market.

LosDolses · 25/06/2022 12:15

M&S definately.

brownbeauty80 · 25/06/2022 12:15

Lidl...
love their fruit and veg...

User48751490 · 25/06/2022 13:04

Morrisons for the best apples! Cox apples. Cannot find them at any other supermarket.

PeppaPigIsBacon · 25/06/2022 13:08

I was actually going to say Tesco so maybe it’s area dependent. Their Rosedene Farm strawberries (which I think is the cheap range!) are far better than M&S.

Waitrose is the worst - I stopped buying fruit there after three consecutive weeks when the fruit was mouldy by the time I got it home.

FredaFox · 25/06/2022 13:24

I always think Morrisons fruit goes off quickly

M&S is best quality but my regular is Tesco and don't have any problems

noblegreenk · 25/06/2022 13:37

I've recently started shopping in Asda and I find the quality and freshness of their fruit to be excellent. Previously shopped in Aldi/Sainsburys and their fruit/veg was very hit and miss.

loopylindi · 25/06/2022 13:43

Very interested in this thread as I am finding more and more that my grocery shop is devoid of fruit which is usually terrible from the supermarket. We now go to Lidls for choice and price, M and S for flavour. Clearly the good tasty fruit is being grown, so why don't the buyers at S.... buy the stuff??

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 25/06/2022 13:45

M&S for quality and flavour, especially the summer fruit. You can get excellent bargains at the end of the day.

Morrisons is good for the money

Tesco and Waitrose are OK

Aldi and Lidl - poor variety, variable quality and it doesn't last

Asda - good looks and variety but completely and bizarrely tasteless

ExtremelyDedicated · 25/06/2022 13:51

M&S here. We do have a market but the quality isn't great, and the bloke does lots of annoying "banter" so I avoid.
