Tips for mixed feeding new baby

I have a 2.5yr old DD who was EBF and as a result, a complete bottle refuser which made social plans etc a little difficult in her first year. I’m due to give birth in a few weeks and this time would love to introduce a bottle earlier on in the hope the new baby would take it.

I only pumped a few times last time because of the bottle issue but have a decent pump and happy to do that again. However, I’d love some tips on best bottles / teats / formula as we will likely introduce some formula along the way too. I’ve got a microwave steriliser but will be pretty new to anything else.

TIA!

I don't know if this is at all relevant but my twins were born very early, and it was before my milk came in. I knew I wanted to BF later so the hospital nurses said not to use a bottle so fed them with sippy cups! You wouldn't think it would work, but it did.

I mixed fed three of mine - wait til 5/6 weeks when bfing is established. Mine didn’t really mind which bottle, but I always used a slow teat.

Mine were initially bottle refusers. We found latex teats were more acceptable than silicon. 2 of them took (rare in this country) Playtex bottles only. The youngest only took a breast bottle. Not sure you can still get them! Nanobebe look similar. Make sure it's introduced before 10 weeks and keep up regular bottle feeds after that.

Don't wait until 6 weeks, my milk was established after 2 weeks so we then introduced a bottle. Every 1 of my friends who waited for the '6 weeks recommended' couldn't get their babies to take bottles.

We used lasinoh bottles and teats as they came with my breast pump and we never had any problem. To start with my DH did the 1 bottle feed a day, and i left the house, then DD would take the bottlw from DH and others even if i was there, and after about 3/4 weeks she would take a bottle from me quite happily if i had one that needed using.

Came to say the exact same. First, i EBF and waited to do bottle. It was extremely frustrating. Did not make that mistake with the second.

DC2 adapted so well to both bottle, and later formula at 8 months because of starting my early.

The 6 week rule is a load of crap in my opinion, that causes a lot of inconvenience and frustration later on.

This is really helpful cos this is what we did with my first DD, she took maybe 1-2 bottles around 8/10 weeks but then that was it

Really useful tips so far thanks!

How did you get on? Any tips for me, baby is 1 week & I would like to mix feed but worried about supply issues. Don’t think she has really started cluster feeding yet
