Calpol or calprofen for longer control of a high temp

An ask for help… We’re due to fly home from holiday in 5 hours and DN has a cold and high temperature - hovering at 39C as the Calpol wears off. Calpol brings it down slowly.
The local pharmacist was next to useless, told us to stay another day and when I said we couldn’t, he said he hoped the other passengers would be forgiving! He did offer a paracetamol suppository but that’s not appropriate for DN.

Because of DN’s background we had to request permission to take DN away; get DN’s passport etc; so we can’t “just stay another day/night.”
We have the hotel room for another hour and a half before a 10 minute taxi to the airport. The hotel have been so, so kind.
DN is will be due another dose of Calpol shortly before we fly ; I’m wondering if I’d be better giving him ibuprofen to get through the flight?

Thank you!

Yes. Ibuprofen before the flight.

KangarooKenny · 24/06/2022 15:54

They can have both, but I alternate them.

KarrotKake · 24/06/2022 16:02

Both!
One now, and one on the flight in a couple of hours.

@KangarooKenny @KarrotKake

Thank you both; hopefully he will be comfortable for the flight and we’ll be home in no time.

How old?

My DD is nearly 4 and today doc said to give nurofen and Calpol at the same time before bed tonight if that's an option.

Ikeabag · 24/06/2022 18:14

Calpol is every 4hrs, calprofen (ibuprofen, right?) is every 6 so both for first dose, then calpol again in 4, ibu in 6. I think, but check the labels!

DN is 3.5yo. I gave him Calpol earlier and will be giving calprofen shortly; he will also have more Calpol on the plane or when we land - DP has the Calpol alarm on his phone; I will have the calprofen one on mine! My DD is now cross she’s not getting any Calpol.
