Hi someone I work with also works at my GP surgery. I have a blood test next week and she triages for the GP so would be phoning me to discuss my results. I don't feel comfortable with this, can i refuse and ask the GP to discuss the results with me?

Yes, you can. You can ask that she is blocked from accessing your records.

@Riverlee Who would I need to ask would the healthcare assistant doing the blood test be able to do it or would I need to speak to the practise manager?

You can ask to discuss the results with someone else. But your records will not be locked down, notes are not locked for family members so a colleague certainly would not. However, it would a disciplinary matter if she looked at your notes without reason.

If you want to block her permanently, I think you would need to speak to the practice manager, or your friend’s manager. It’s quite common, especially as most surgery staff live within their local environment, or have family members as patients.

@Trounlet I know they won't look at my medical records and I know anything that is discussed with them would not be discussed with anyone else, she is very professional in her job it's more the fact I would feel uncomfortable.
I will ask to discuss them with someone else.

Practice Manager would deal with this. It's not an unusual request. I used to work in a GP surgery and we had all sorts of records separated for various reasons - family members of staff, a few staff themselves were patients there, and no doubt others I had no cause to know about.

It won’t be a weird request I’m pretty sure.

I phoned NHS 24 a few months ago and got someone I worked with until last year on the other end, she had to offer to pass me on to someone else or have me agree to her doing the call before we could continue on to any medical information.
