Which Ring?

I have decided to buy myself a ring as a “to
me, from me” gift for securing a big promotion at work.

trouble is I can’t decide which ring to buy. I do need to go and try them all on to see which suits me best, but these are the ones I like so far … which is the nicest? I am looking for something that doesn’t look like an “engagement ring” style , a little bit different and of course, pretty and sparkly!

this isn’t something I would typically do and I NEVER buy myself anything worth any sort of value really, so I feel like I really want to get it right.

I wear an engagement ring which is white gold cluster, but the ring I will buy doesn’t have to be white gold as I will be wearing on my right hand.

help me pick which ring?

thank you!

Opal is my birthstone (October), and the bad luck link is supposed to be for all the people born in the other 11 months.

I like the coloured opals - like the Orange Fire Opal. BUT from the three you posted, numbers 1 and 3 are equal in appeal.

Kastri · 23/06/2022 22:05

I love the third one,it looks more special.

I wouldn't buy anything from those sites .

I'd go to either London Diamonds ( google them) OR an independent jeweler

Those are extremely overpriced IMO

How can a gemstone be bad luck?

I didn't know about opals being bad luck if it's not your birth stone, only about them being damaged very easily, but I do know that gemstones are supposed to have meanings attached to them. Whether you believe that kind of thing or not, it's kind of sweet to choose according to 'legend'

The “opals are bad luck” ‘rumour’ is from two fictional novels! Walter Scott first then Charles Dickens who pounced on it in a short story about an Opal Ring as a bad omen - De Beers was probably quite pleased as well! You may safely wear beautiful opals (though they are easily damaged by daily wear and tear they make beautiful cocktail rings) and one of the happiest marriages I know of has a stunning huge Opal engagement ring, which seems to have lasted 47 years so far.. Opals are to bad luck as Muggles are to reality!

Definitely not the first one as opals are very bad luck and I don't like to even go near them. I know several people who had Opal engagement rings and went on to have the most horrendous relationships and then divorce. Tbh even if i didnt find them unlucky I don't like the look of them.

The second and third rings are lovely. The second one is my favourite.

Every woman I know who is divorced had a diamond engagement ring. Perhaps that's the reason their marriages all failed???? 🙄

DoncasterHombre · 23/06/2022 22:15

None of them. There is only one ring to rule them all, Precious.

Find that one and go on a journey.

Or settle for onion rings. Jelly ones if you have a sweet tooth.

ImAvingOops · 23/06/2022 22:36

Number 2 for me. I think it's beautiful.

JuneJubilee · 23/06/2022 22:47

I like 2 best.

I like the pink sapphire @meadowbleu linked to as well.
congratulations on your promotion 🥂🍾

I have bought myself a few vintage rings from eBay over time and have been very pleased with them. My latest purchase was a 24 carat gold narrow wedding ring. Vintage rings are second hand of course but if you don't mind that you can get a bargain. I like all the rings you showed so not much help!

anonnancy · 23/06/2022 23:14

@DoncasterHombre haha , I like your response A LOT! 👏🏼 x

I don't like the first one at all, 2 or 3 are much nicer.

SunflowerSmith · 23/06/2022 23:50

First one, the other two look like engagement rings and personally find sapphires a bit tacky.

The opal one will match anything you wear too as it's a natural colour.

Thistlelass · 24/06/2022 00:58

Hi. Well done on the promotion. So important to look after and treat ourselves. I put my family first for years but now trying to change that a bit. I have just bought myself a yellow gold chain with a gold feather as the pendant and I love it. Birthday gift to self. I like the Opal ring the best.

Some lovely vintage bits and bobs to be collected up and enjoyed also.

SammyScrounge · 24/06/2022 02:40

The opal ring is gorgeous and will flash fired in the right light. It is beautiful and a little different.
Congrats on your success at work!

Aquamarine1029 · 24/06/2022 02:41

I definitely would not choose the opal. They are too fragile.

fallfallfall · 24/06/2022 03:40

i don't consider these good value for your money, 14K or 18K or platinum minimum really then a good stone. of the three the second ring is a classic design that pairs well with everyday clothing.

fallfallfall · 24/06/2022 03:46

US or Canadian currency sorry but, for similar UK pricepoint
