London - Frances Gardner House Uni Halls as a guest.

Has anyone stayed in university halls of residence for the night but not as a student, as a guest?

I can see there is accommodation for £77 for the night at Frances Gardner House which is about 15 minute walk from Kings Cross where my train comes in.

I have a travelodge booked at £247 which is cancellable. I know I won’t get breakfast at Frances Gardner but can’t see the area lacking in options on a Sunday morning. Considering changing but wonder if anyone has stayed in uni halls as a paying guest rather than a student. I am only down for 1 night and the saving is quite a lot. Would appreciate any tips you have or, if anyone knows the area particularly well. Thanks.

I have! Admittedly when I was early in my career so not long out of halls myself! In London and in Sydney (to avoid crazy New Years hotel prices!).

But I’ve found they tend to be very well organised and good guest management. Room quality can vary a bit, so check the photos to see examples of the type of room. Likely will only be a single bed and minimalistic compared to a hotel - and double check they are en-suite if that’s a must for you!

I work nearby, the area’s quiet and I’d reckon it’s fairly safe. It’s very residential, so it can be very quiet/little passing traffic so if you’re coming back late at night I’d be conscious of your safety, but that’s true of pretty much anywhere.

Lots of places to eat at the Brunswick Centre nearby, and if you’re heading to Kings Cross, get croissants for breakfast at Aux Pains de Papy as they’re literally some of the best in London and only five minutes from you!

Thank you. Yes, likely to be late back in the evening after dinner. Giving this more thought because I have my overnight bag which will have to be stored at left luggage in King Cross and collected later however, the travel lodge will allow me to leave my bag in the hotel if my room isn’t ready. Just on that, j am leaning towards staying at the TL.

For the saving of £150 off on the room I'd be using the left luggage facility at the station. But depends on your financial circumstances.

Only done it in Cambridge. The chair by the desk was about an inch deep in pubes. They’d obviously hoovered the floor and not considered the fact the normal resident obviously spent a lot of time sat naked at his desk!
