Do you cry when you're in pain?

I've got a bad back and sciatica at the moment - very, very painful. I went for a massage last week and at one point it was hurting so much (even though she was being very gentle) that I cried. The masseuse asked if I was having emotional problems and seemed surprised when I said, no - it just fucking hurts! So, do you cry when you are in physical pain or I am I just a baby??

I can cry at the drop of a hat.

Pain is one of my triggers.

Rinatinabina · 23/06/2022 13:38

No, had an ectopic and thought I was dying but couldn’t cry, shite on youtube, that can make me cry.

Yes - I cry after the pain has been going on for a long time and I am exhausted and emotionally battered.

EvelynParker · 23/06/2022 13:51

No not really, I can't remember the last time I cried in pain but everyone's different.

Like some people say they scream etc I just go really silent.

Caminante · 23/06/2022 13:54

I've sat and cried quietly to myself when I've had an excruciating ear infection or tooth ache because that kind of pain makes you feel utter despair.

Name change fail, OP? People won’t see your reply because it’s not highlighted as being the OP.

nope, I don’t cry from pain.

This.

I cried on week six of unrelenting covid cough, but that was from frustration. I very rarely cry from pain, but I definitely don't think you're a baby for doing so. Weird of her to assume emotional problems, honestly.

I have long term chronic pain due to Systemic Sclerosis. I have a pretty high pain threshold and have broken several bones and not noticed. Nerve pain imho is totally different. Its the kind of pain that makes you want to slam your hand in a door to give you something else to think about, esp if that pain is long lasting like sciatica. I cried all the time when I had sciatica and also with shingles. My sympathies op.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 23/06/2022 14:04

I have done but not usually. Usually I breathe really quickly and sometimes vomit if it's bad enough.

BiddyPop · 23/06/2022 14:09

I tend to get very quiet when I am in pain. If I get overtired, I can start to cry (e.g after 9 hours waiting in A&E with not even a paracetemol waiting for a knife wound to be stitched and it was seriously throbbing, I started to cry about 4am). But I have back issues from 2 separate car crashes 15 months apart, going on for over a decade now, and I also carry stress as physical tension in my shoulders, and I tend to just get on with it for both of those - quiet and still or slow deliberate movement rather than tears.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 23/06/2022 15:06

No but I don't really cry over anything, I can't remember the last time I did. I think it might have been when my dad died 10 years ago.

PremiumTonic · 23/06/2022 15:08

I cried to myself when I was in excruciating pain in hospital - the HCA told me to calm down!
