Where to stay on London for a few days solo?

If you were to stay in London by yourself for a few days, where would you choose? Needs to be reasonably priced (if there is such a thing). I like looking around art galleries and museums, parks, running... anything else to suggest doing in London that doesn't cost the earth?

Anywhere that you would stay with a friend! Earl's Court is quite good value & close to all the South Ken museums.

Premier inn have hub hotels and also a slightly cheaper brand all over London. I would choose those over Airbnb or booking.com places as have had some which felt a bit sketchy despite great location. Slept very lightly and had chair wedged against, flimsy, door.

I've stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall (on the South Bank). It's not luxurious but we had a quiet, dark room with a comfortable bed and a bath with shower over. Tate Modern, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery etc all in easy walking distance.

I second the premier inn hotels, they're in some central locations. If it's a weekend, the hotels in the City (St Paul's/Farringdon/Bank/Liverpool St) can be cheaper as no business travellers. Baker Street for easy access to Regents Park, Camden and the Marylebone/Bloomsbury museums. Gloucester Road is accessible for the South Ken museums. And further afield, Angel is a lovely area to mooch about (has the canal and loads of restaurants/bars).

If you're alone and happy with a small bed, look at premier inn hub.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/06/2022 10:55

What's your budget per night OP?

lolil · 23/06/2022 10:56

I stay at premier inns. I either choose close to the train station I arrive and depart from so I can leave luggage if I get there early/after check out, or sometimes I choose close to theatres for walking back after, or on a bus route that gives a few options. Depends what I am doing.

I stayed at the premier inn hub in Covent Garden it was around £65 for one night and breakfast is £5. Don’t know about proximity to museums etc but IT was near tube station and I was happy with it

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I will definitely check out Premier Smile

I stayed at the St Paul's Youth Hostel a few years ago.
It's not the kind of thing that would suit everyone, but it was very cheap and in a really good location - next to St Paul's cathedral so good for the Tate Modern.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 23/06/2022 11:18

Farringdon Premier Inn is my go to. Handy for Tate and access to riverside. I've done runs up and down the river from here

SatinHeart · 23/06/2022 11:22

If its outside university term time, then you can book some of the uni halls, e.g.

www.lsevacations.co.uk/Home.aspx

I've done it a couple of times. There's one right near Tate Modern.

For running etc St James Park & Green Park are lovely (joined together), and you'd be close to National Gallery & National Portrait Gallery (and Westminster Abbey, Parliament etc for mooching), near Mayfair for lovely solo coffees, plus an easy walk down Northumberland Avenue to the Southbank where you'll find the Royal Festival Hall which has lots going on, Hayward Gallery, BFI, National Theatre and Thames Path walk or run in either direction.

stoptheride · 23/06/2022 11:36

This place is fabulous: snoozebox.com/

stoptheride · 23/06/2022 11:41

Take the Thames riverboat (get a day ticket) and you can hop and off all around London taking in all the sights from the Thames Barrier right up the the London eye.

stoptheride · 23/06/2022 11:42

Stop off at the O2 /Greenwich which has an amazing park and the royal observatory

I always stay in the Premier Inn next to Kings Cross as that's where I get the train into. I can leave my bags there when I check in and also leave them there after I've checked out until it's time to get the train home.

Is there a Premier Inn near the station you'll be travelling to and from?

SausageRoll2020 · 23/06/2022 16:19

Another vote for Premier Inn here.

We stayed in the Leicester Square one last December, it was such a convenient location and yet somehow super quiet inside.

Yodaisawally · 23/06/2022 16:25

Premier inn county hall or Farringdon.

There's a fab Premier Inn Hub hotel in Covent Garden. It's self service and the rooms are quite small but it's brand new and pretty cool. A bit space age and last time I checked, was reasonably priced (for London, anyway!). It's right in the middle of all the chaos and fun of Covent Garden.

flyingant · 24/06/2022 11:55

Thanks again for all the great suggestions. I wouldn’t have thought of some of these! Smile

Premier Inn hubs! We stayed at the one at kings cross when we went to the V and A. The tube is a 10 minute walk and there are lots of places to eat nearby including Dishroom!

I like staying in the City but the tube service isnt as good.
