spouse ordering prescriptions under my name for him

This is the first time I have posted here.... Here goes....

Not sure what to do but my husband has been ordering painkillers under my name... Co codamol. He requests the prescription for me however he uses them for himself. He regularly requests tramadol under his own medical records and is therefore not able to request co codamol since they should not be taken together. So I have since found out that he has been ordering co codamol without my knowledge and consent, I am mad about this because he has been ordering them on a regular basis, typically every 2 weeks. There are 100 tablets per prescription so roughly speaking it works out that 7 pills are taken daily. This is on my health records! So it looks like I am taking these when I am not. . More to the point it looks like I am addicted to them as the guidance says you are to have tablet free days. I am worried because I have health conditions where this could impact my treatment, etc. I am so cross about this, I spoke to my husband about it but he thinks I am not supporting him by allowing him to continue with ordering them.

I have explained to him how I feel about this and how it could effect my health plan in the long run but he doesn't seem to get it, it's like his need is greater than mine. He is obviously addicted to pain killers but I need to put myself first. He gets angry when I explain and tell him that I will speak to the Drs to prevent anyone other than myself to request medication. I am in a stuck situation... Continue to let him do this or put a stop to it and have to put up with his behaviour towards me.

Any words of wisdom of advice would be gratefully appreciated!

How is he able to do this?

ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 00:33

They prescribe that online??? I would have thought you'd need to see a gp face to face to get cocodomol.

greyinganddecaying · 23/06/2022 00:36

So he's stealing your prescribed medication and is abusive towards you when you tell him to stop?

You need to put a stop to this and get away from him. Contact your GP and make a plan to leave.

Ring your GP tomorrow and put a halt to your repeat script. If you share GPs I would also highlight concerns regarding your husbands addiction. Something as simple as a referral to a pain clinic might help him.
If you were not on pain killers as a usual treatment I would also raise questions over how he is able to order on your behalf.

sakurarose2022 · 23/06/2022 00:43

No, you are able to phone the requests through as it is on a repeat prescription due to my health conditions

I don't want to get him in trouble for it as that will cause further problems

I called the gp and told them we have now separated and therefore I don't want him to be able to order medicines on my behalf... They told me they will put an alert on my file but today coincidentally after picking up some medication for my child I was told by the pharmacy that my co codamol is also there after I already told them. So somehow he's managed to still order it. If my son wasn't in need of medication to be collected I would have been none the wiser, he'd have ordered it and collected it without me knowing

Shocking that a GP is prescribing such strong painkillers so frequently and in large volumes.

I was out on Cocodamol once when I broke a bone and was given a script for ten and very clearly told it wouldn’t be repeated.

ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 00:54

Well, the codamol had probably been at the chemist since yesterday (that'd be my guess).
One thing you could do is tell the pharmacists locally that you do not want any prescriptions for codamol filled for you as it's fraud. They'll take that seriously.

ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 00:55

I agree, that it's very odd the skrips are being repeated. I hurt my back once and they put the fear of God in me, I had four days' worth but I was so afraid that I took three days' paused, took a day off to assess how much pain I was in and then decided not to take the fourth day.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 23/06/2022 00:56

I'm amazed he can phone a prescription through for you tbh. My gp wouldn't renew my 17 year olds script on my say so!

sakurarose2022 · 23/06/2022 00:57

This is really getting me down, I have a tumour on my liver and I will need surgery at some point to remove it. I am doing so much to maximise my recovery period etc, and I am worried that the consultant will look at my records and believe I am addicted to this medication and not helping myself :(

GrazingSheep · 23/06/2022 01:00

Tell them he has been ordering your medication

sakurarose2022 · 23/06/2022 01:01

It's been on repeat for about 4 years now as I have several gynae issues. Luckily I've not needed to take them but they have been requested for this amount of time.

ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 01:02

I'm glad to read upthread that you're putting yourself first. That may not be completely compatible with not getting him in to any trouble. I would tell your doctor everything.

sakurarose2022 · 23/06/2022 01:03

I am also amazed how he can request his tramadol every 3 weeks or so. I don't understand how this can happen.

OP posts:
ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 01:03

It's so important that they know. It could be a factor in how much anaesthetic they decide to give you when you have the surgery. I'm not at all sure about that! But I'm just thinking, I bet it is important.

ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 01:05

It is weird. Tramadol is awful stuff. It made me vomit and I felt like my eyes were on fire. Weird stuff. I think I had a bad reaction to it. When my back was able for it, I brought the tramadol back to the pharmacy and told them, I don't want this.

sakurarose2022 · 23/06/2022 01:05

If I tell my gp will be not get into trouble? He'd get so mad if he knew I reported him

OP posts:
ComfyChairPose · 23/06/2022 01:07

I'd just play dumb, ''no I just answered the gp's questions about what i'd been taking so she updated my records with regard to what prescriptions I'd be needing, your name wasn't mentioned''.

Yes. But you are currently KNOWINGLY his accidental drug dealer. Now that you know you have to put a stop to it. What if he dies of an overdose FFS?

IstayedForTheFeminism · 23/06/2022 01:26

OP you say he'll get mad, and mention his behaviour towards you. Are you safe? Do you need to leave him?
What he is doing is illegal and dangerous.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 23/06/2022 01:29

I don't want to get him in trouble for it as that will cause further problems

Well, don't do anything about it then.

You either tell the GP he is ordering fake prescriptions in your name or put up with it.

There is no middle ground here.

I still have no idea how he is able to do that though. Are you in the UK?

Mandatorymongoose · 23/06/2022 01:32

You need to flag this with the pharmacy and possibly report to the general pharmaceutical council.

Tramadol is a controlled drug and he shouldn't be getting prescriptions every 3 weeks. (Although repeats can usually be ordered a week ahead so you don't run out, they should be watching for stockpiling)and no way should they be giving out that much cocodamol, there's an obvious overdose being taken and the paracetamol overdosing alone is so risky!

It's not that unusual I don't think
Picked mine up today which is 30mg dihydrocodeine 4 times a day and I get a months supply. Been on them since 2017
I don't take 4 a day, just 1-2 at night
