Would GMC bother with this?

So last year I took several overdoses, for 2 of them I was treated by the same Dr (we'll call him A) while he was still treating me we matched on tinder and started to talk- things were very sexual very quickly.

Fast forward 2 weeks and we've swapped numbers and slept together a couple of times. One day I was badly suicidal and had what I thought were the means to take a life ending overdose (in theory it should of killed me and the Dr's say its amazing I did survive) I texted A, told him how I was feeling and asked him to come over support. While waiting for him to come over I took the overdose. He came over and I told him what I'd done, instead of calling an ambulance or taking me to hospital he proceeded to sleep with me -I was bearly conscious at this point and definitely didn't have capacity to consent. My flatmate found me passed out in the kitchen less then 30 minutes after he left and called an ambulance. I got to A&E and was quickly put under a section and moved to ITU for dialysis.

Now I've somewhat let it go, I go to a different hospital for A&E if needed and have tried to block out what happened. However I've just found out he's doing similar to a girl I was in the psych ward with (same kinda story he treated her for mh, and then slept with her once she was discharged) and now I'm considering if its worth speaking to the GMC?

Would I be unreasonable to do this or should I just let it go and move on?

Forget the GMC for now and go to the police!

Jujy · 22/06/2022 20:50

Yes absolutely contact the GMC. It will be taken very seriously.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/06/2022 20:51

Yes, GMC would take this seriously (I would hope).

Justcallmebebes · 22/06/2022 20:51

Absolutely report. Gross abuse of power

PinkDaffodil2 · 22/06/2022 20:54

Absolutely - but as per PP I’d start with the police and take things from there.

missbipolar · 22/06/2022 20:54

The issue with the police is that I guess in theory at the time I didn't have a capacity assessment in place (this was done approx 2 hours after the event) so it could be argued that I did consent and therefore not rape?

I am in healthcare. Yes absolutely report please. Gross negligence and more I’m sure.

im sorry this happened to you. Hope you are ok now.

Kidsaregrim · 22/06/2022 20:58

He abused you the first time he started a sexual relationship with you, he continued the abuse you every time after that. He then failed you again by leaving you when he knew you had taken an overdose.

he doesn’t deserve to be registered with the GMC or to be treating (abusing) vulnerable women - this man is a predator

AffIt · 22/06/2022 21:00

Start with the police. This man is a dangerous predator.

Goodskin46 · 22/06/2022 21:02

The GMC will most definately be interested

BelleMarionette · 22/06/2022 21:02

GMC would take this very seriously. Doctors have been struck off for similar: for example Mr Hancock's brother.

SandyWedges · 22/06/2022 21:05

Oh OP, what a horrendous abuse of his position. Please do go to the GMC.

missbipolar · 22/06/2022 21:21

What would the police actually do? Surely he'll just say it was consensual (and tbh I don't remember actually saying no)

OP posts:
Ireolu · 22/06/2022 21:22

Is this person definitely a doctor? Most doctors work hard to keep their registration. His fitness to practice shd be questioned and it appears he needs to be kept away from vulnerable patients. He shd be reported to the hospital too. He shd not be seeing patients.

missbipolar · 22/06/2022 21:29

Yes he's definitely a Dr, I've had his position confirmed by more then just him unfortunately

I am so sorry that this happened to you, it's shocking and completely unacceptable. I work in healthcare with doctors (not a doctor myself) and the GMC would definitely want to know about this. You can report it on their website and also find out more about the process here

You say it yourself, you were barely conscious and had no capacity to consent. That's rape. No question.

Worse, he had a duty of care that he violated and he quite literally, left you to die. Horrendous!

Friendship101 · 22/06/2022 21:40

Start with the police.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 22/06/2022 21:40

In fact, I'd argue that, knowing you had overdosed, he's also guilty of attempted murder.

MichelleScarn · 22/06/2022 21:43

I have no idea how tinfer works, but wil that not prove you 'matched' while a patient of his?

Who said first about that?

Apandemicyousay · 22/06/2022 21:45

You/Police can contact his employer too. Likely to suspend immediately and they will refer to GMC.

ImaniMumsnet · 22/06/2022 21:50

Hi OP,
We're so sorry this happened to you and want you to know we are sending you warm thoughts and wishing you everything you need right now.

We've had a look and think your thread might be better suited on the Chat Board so we will move it now. Please reach out if there is anything we can help with.

Best wishes ❤

missbipolar · 22/06/2022 21:50

I have messages from after the overdose from him where he admits he didn't think I'd actually taken as much as I had and that I was normally pretty spaced out (no shit, I was having a huge mental breakdown)

I was the one that mentioned being his first, and yes tinder does have the date and time of the first message being sent which I guess could be able to be matched up to my medical notes?

I guess I'm just concerned that the prosecution rates for rape are really low and I don't want to put myself through all of that to get no where, especially when it becomes a he said she said situation? Which I guess is what will happen with the gmc as well.

If I contact the hospital would that just be through pals?
