Silverfish - how to not “catch” them and bring them home?

Staying with someone for a few weeks and they have silverfish in an old carpet. I assumed as the bedroom I am in is laminate that I would be safe from them, but saw them running across the Lino in the bathroom last night. The carpet stops at the door to the bedroom. I’ve had suitcases etc and piles of washing on the floor assuming I was safe on the laminate/living out of a suitcase. Anything I can do to stop bringing them back to infest my house?
Do they just live on the floor/do they climb?
If I bring some back with me and I have no carpets in my house will they die or will they infest my wardrobes etc?

If you’re really worried then empty your suitcase outside and put your clothes into sealed plastic bags, then straight into the washing machine. Leave your suitcase outside until you can vacuum it. Check and wipe anything else before bringing it in.

In reality silverfish need a damp environment so if your home isn’t damp they almost certainly won’t thrive.

I have one or two silverfish in my loo that I occasionally encounter at night. They have never travelled anywhere with me (not even to neighbouring rooms).

We’ve had them years in our bathroom at night. They must come out from under bath. I keep some little traps there to help. But interestingly like PP they’ve never moved anywhere else and never left the bathroom.
