I went to bed at 3pm yesterday afternoon for a "nap" after coming home from work unwell, really feeling dreadful.

I've just woken up! We're supposed to phone in by 7:30. I'll have to call an apologise, but it's occurred to me that actually, if you live alone (so no one to wake you) this would be common, if you are indeed quite ill?

I've only recently lived alone after 3 decades of a DH and DC in the house, so little chance of sleeping in no matter how ill you are.

Get a cat, they will wake you.

Yep they seem to have daft ideas about having breakfast in the early hours of the morning. Then have another daft idea that it's breakfast time again a couple of hours later!! They also think it's hilarious to stab a claw or 2 in any part of your body that's not covered up by the duvet, if you don't immediately spring out of bed and ponder to their demands. I've also been woken up many a time by the pinching of little sharp teeth and claws in my head. My Cats favourite wake up call is to stand on my hair with his back legs then stick his front claws into my scalp whilst grabbing a chunk of my hair with his teeth and riving his head from side to side. Then he wonders why I can't move to feed him when he's stood on my hair 😼

Oh my god ! I meant ringing !!

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/06/2022 10:44

@MaChienEstUnDick
😂

I hope you’re feeling better soon op. I’d love to be able to sleep from 3pm to 9 the next day.

Summerwetordry · 22/06/2022 10:50

I've had the worst bout of flu. It put my Covid infection in the shade. There's no way I could have phoned my boss on time. It's been a month now and still not completely recovered.

Lots of bed rest and don't rush to get back to work.

LetitiaLeghorn · 22/06/2022 10:50

It isn't difficult to work out that op just needed to reach out to impartial people when she is feeling unwell and alone.

I get that. But surely you ring work first? And then you can reach out and chat as long as you want.

@Hallyup89 ~Literally says they have already called boss. she hasnt JUST woken up.

The op did say they had just woken up and that they would need to contact their boss.

It is odd that the first thought when realising the time isn't to call your boss but to post about it on an Internet forum.

That said, would expect my boss to be sympathetic, given that they went home ill the day before and if it's not normal behaviour. I know my boss would have contacted me but out of concern.

fuzzyduck1 · 22/06/2022 10:55

A work mate called in sick who lived on his own. No one heard from him the next day. His sister went to visit him and found him dead in bed.

I beg anyone who knows someone who’s sick please keep in touch with them.

EvelynParker · 22/06/2022 10:56

Does it really matter OP posted before calling her boss? For all we know she could have posted this whilst on the loo? It really doesn't take that long to post.

I'm surprised your boss didn't call you beforehand but at least you've called now.

Hope you feel better soon op Flowers

My alarm is set on repeat for every week day morning

worraliberty · 22/06/2022 11:15

WhiteCircles · 22/06/2022 10:04

I've spoken to my boss now

Were they ok about it?

What time do you normally get up if your alarm didn't go off until gone 7.30, or do you set it every single night like my DH does?

WhiteCircles · 22/06/2022 11:18

Ah well. Just got the positive Covid test. It was clear yesterday when my very elderly parents insisted on visiting despite knowing/because I was unwell.

My boss had text, I think it was probably the beep that woke me. She'd have called, I think, if I hadn't responded.

As for "can't be that ill", I've just slept 18 hours straight Not really a sign that someone's well.

Yes I have an old fashioned alarm clock because I don't have my phone in the bedroom. Turn it off every morning and set it as I go to bed.

Work were fine.

The sentiment behind the post was really "omg I've slept 18 hours".

Hope you are okay @WhiteCircles
Ignore the rudeness of some posters.

I always try to call employees if they aren’t in and we haven’t heard from them because I worry.

Sapphirensteel · 22/06/2022 11:23

Of course you wouldn’t have set an alarm. It was 3 pm , you expected to have a nap and wake up ( hopefully feeling better) And when you’re feeling ill you don’t think about alarm clocks.
I was unwell a couple of years ago, woke up lying at the bottom of the stairs, as in sitting on the bottom step, head a couple of steps higher . No idea how long I’d been there, 2 minutes, 2 hours ? I live alone so there’d been no one to notice, except the dog who’d probably just slept. Turned out I’d had a haemorrhage, blue lighted to hospital. No idea what would have happened if I’d not woken up and realised there was something very wrong.

Hope you feel better soon, and work understood.

ClinkeyMonkey · 22/06/2022 11:26

That was a loooong sleep @WhiteCircles! Your body clearly wanted to tell you something. Glad your boss was ok and hope you'll feel better soon. Now ffs, go and get some restSmileSmile

worraliberty · 22/06/2022 11:27

You were posting last night?

Either way, sorry to hear you have Covid and hope you get better soon Flowers

rnsaslkih · 22/06/2022 11:30

Extreme tiredness was the first thing that hit me with covid. Hope you feel better soon. Me and dh were sleeping all night and most of the day when we had it (it was before we were fully vaccinated and it was delta). Sleeping is the way to get better I think.

It takes about 30 seconds to post. It’s hardly delaying contacting work by hours. She soon after posted to say she had run her boss.

INeedNewShoes · 22/06/2022 11:42

I hope you get better soon OP. As long as you're normally a good employee I'm sure your boss would be absolutely fine with it. They have to have these conditions written into contracts to stop the pisstakers!

I've had similar happen to me. Felt crap, went for a nap early afternoon. Woke up and looked at the clock which said 7:30, assumed in the evening. Went back to sleep at woke up again at 11 and realised that it was light outside and I could hear the neighbours kids' playing and it was 11am, almost 24 hours after I'd gone for a nap! I felt quite confused for the rest of the day.

Since then I always set an alarm if I go for a nap, just in case (although I now have a DD so no chance of oversleeping!).

CannaeRemember · 22/06/2022 11:48

Hope you're feeling better, OP. It must be quite a transition to living alone from having other people in the house with you for such a long time. All best wishes to you.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/06/2022 12:26

We'd have been phoning from 15 minutes late out of concern. But also because the night shift want to go home!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/06/2022 12:27

woodencoffetable · 22/06/2022 10:09

Get a cat, they will wake you.

Yep. Several times a night. Though I think they'd just eat me if I didn't wake up.

bloodyunicorns · 22/06/2022 14:03

Omg, that is a massive sleep. Your body must really have needed it

Sorry to hear about the positive Covid test. Take care of yourself, op.
