Help! Marketing and communications interview, what do I say?!

Hello, I've been a sahm for ever after a really fun career as a creative in an ad agency. As it's a young business and I'm ancient, I thought I'd train up in some digital marketing, which seems to be a variation of my skill set.
I've only gone and got an interview!
It's to ..manage internal and external Comms, develop systems to stay in close contact with user groups, conduct surveys, promote stuff, post on social. For a gym.
What on earth do I prepare, or even say?! It's been years since I had an interview and that involved having a drink in the pub!
I'm swatting up on LinkedIn learning, any other tips very welcome. I don't even know what to wear! And I REALLY need to work! Thank you!

Look at the JD. Think of examples you have to demonstrate those skills. Imagine you've got the role and think of ideas of what you would do in the role.

Marketer here. The pp is right, look closely at the position description and what skills you think it requires- then try to think of examples. Look up competency based interviewing and the "STAR" technique, and practice giving your examples in that format.

Lastly have a think about more general marketing questions they might ask to test your technical expertise, e.g. an example of where you had to develop a marketing initiative on a shoestring budget; an example of a great marketing campaign you've seen recently (and why you thought it was great) that kind of thing.

Thanks that helps a lot. I know it's crazy but lost all confidence. Never thought it would happen to me!

Well done on the interview!

Make sure you know the local gyms (i.e. the competition). How are they advertising their clubs? How does it compare to your gym?

What kind of audience (user group) are each of the gyms aiming for? What social media does your demographic use? What other channel can you use to promote the gym?

What type of things do you need to bear in mind when doing a survey, to increase response rates?

Good advice from PPs, definitely look at what they've got out there and make sure you've got some creative ideas or suggestions ready to discuss. It's all about what you'll bring to the table and drive things forward.

Thank you everyone. You are a great help! More questions I'm afraid.. they have 300 employees in 10 sites and they want to freely communicate between all levels..would you suggest teams? Or is slack better? ( Or something else)
With maybe a channel for each location to communicate within their location, And one for general chat and one for announcements that affect everyone from on high? Sorry, teaching myself so until I get the job it's a bit academic. And I'm trying to anticipate questions. They definitely want to put systems in place for communicating freely.
Thank you!

Facebook Workplace perhaps?

Bunnyfluffles · 30/06/2022 10:19

Thank you! I mentioned workplace, slack or teams.
Thanks everyone for your help. There were 5 People interview ing. Have no idea how it went! But thank you. Post interview slump is a bummer, depression and feeling useless. Onto the next !

Ah, good luck! These things can really go down to the wire, we've just done it in our team and there's so many things to consider.

KurriKawari · 30/06/2022 18:37

Good luck OP

doadeer · 30/06/2022 18:39

What we're you asked about?

Wishing luck!

Bunnyfluffles · 30/06/2022 23:12

Thanks all. I didn't get it. Slightly relieved if I'm honest, they weren't really my type if that's not an awful thing to thinkl. I think I sound vague in interviews. My voice sounds quite nasel and slow, and I think I look puzzled when I'm thinking. I p probably pick my nose or something too.joke!. Im learning off LinkedIn so I haven't got a proper marketing qualification, which means I'm not always the most confident of people, though have a background in advertising on the creative side.
They asked stuff like, 'when was a time you got into conflict and how did you deal with it/ when did you show team working/ how do you see our demographic, what would you do to enhance our brand, what would you do in the first 30 days, how do you see us in relation to our competitors ' I have examples from work - a zillion years ago. Recent examples are a bit lame as a sahm, with part time shop job.
Onwards!

Sorry to hear you didn't get it OP. For what it's worth, I recently had an interview for a marketing role that would have been a big step up for me. Didn't make it past the 1st interview. Then a few weeks later got offered an even more senior role for more money! So don't let one role get you down. I'm also not great with interviewing as I get super nervous, look at this first one as useful practice.

Bunnyfluffles · 01/07/2022 22:24

Thanks violetbunny. Well done! I hope you are right 😸
