Stupid question about gigs

OldSpeclkledHen · 21/06/2022 17:58

So I'm very old, the last concert I went to was Shaking Stevens

I'm off to see Simply Red next week and I've a stupid question 😳

Obviously it's standing, but will I be able to sit on the floor? Shouldn't imagine it'll be packed 🤷‍♀️ Just not sure i can stand all evening!

Sorry, told you was stupid 😂 but any advice appreciated 🙂 tia

When? You mean, while you’re waiting for it to start?

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 21/06/2022 17:59

Excitement will keep you on your feet whole way op!!

Isseywith3witchycats · 21/06/2022 18:00

we went to a standing venue a few weeks ago it was a band my OH likes not me so i sat on the floor at the side by the wall made sure it was out of the way of people walking through and no one said anything

No, you probably can't. You won't see a thing if you do and you might get trodden on. Unless it's a festival and you sit on the grass at the edge or the back.

Sit down beforehand. Wear really comfortable shoes (no open toes - there's always some drunk bloke...) You'll be too busy enjoying the music to notice you've been standing for ages.

mirrorballer · 21/06/2022 18:01

You'll probably be ok to sit around the edge for a bit if it's not sold out. You won't be able to sit on the floor in the middle of the crowd, you'll just be trampled and covered in beer.

DinkBoo · 21/06/2022 18:02

Are you sure it is standing? Lots of gigs are seated.

If it definitely is, find a wall to lean against, you won't want to sit on the floor even if it is possible 😉 Leaning has seen me through many gigs with a slipped disc. Well, leaning and strong pain killers.

Riverlee · 21/06/2022 18:02

Maybe able to sit at the back or sides in a concert venue. Festivals there’ll be more space to sit down, although if everyone is standing, you may not see everything.

JudgementalCentipede · 21/06/2022 18:03

So jealous op - have a great time!

Mablefly · 21/06/2022 18:03

It depends on the venue and how packed in everyone is tbh. I go to lots of gigs and wouldn’t sit on the floor at most of them either due to fear of being stood on, or the fact that the floor is sticky and grim!

Larger venues are more likely to have seating space in a bar area or maybe on the floor at the sides. Your best bet is to hope they are really good so you get swept away with the performance and forget how long you have been standing!

nb all this is assuming that you don’t have a disability, in that case there are more and more venues that have better access / views etc and they may be able to help if you call ahead x

balalake · 21/06/2022 18:18

You'll be holding back the years if you can stand all the time. Before Mick Hucknall and the band come on, you will probably be able to sit.

Underscore21 · 21/06/2022 18:35

Isn't it outdoors? Should be able to take a picnic rug / deckchair to sit on.

Itwasntmeright · 21/06/2022 18:46

It’s probably not sensible although you may be able to find a quieter space. You won’t see anything though.

do you have a disability that means you need to sit down? for future reference if you’re going to a gig at any O2 venue and you do have a disability that means you need to be seated, you can email the box office and ask for a form that you can fill out describing your disability and the adjustments you require. You do have to provide evidence. You’ll then be given a code which you can email to the box office of any O2 venue you’re going to and ask them to make the adjustments you need.

frydae · 21/06/2022 18:49

This is really venue dependent

OldSpeclkledHen · 21/06/2022 18:55

Thanks all!

It's outdoors, was hoping I could find a quiet spot on the edges somewhere 😂 obviously not!

Ok, as long as I know what to expect 👍🏻🙂 hence my post 😉

Completely able bodied (just ... old, chunky and peri 🤣)

Thanks again everyone 👍🏻👍🏻

A friend of mine saw them at Blenheim Palace last week, the pictures she posted on Facebook look like they are sitting outside on rows of chairs. Maybe you could contact the venue and check what the arrangements are.

As long as you don't mind being near baxk / sides I would say there will be somewhere to sit outdoors.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/06/2022 18:59

If it's a stadium venue, you might be able to... at the back and at the edge. But you equally might not. And regardless, if you sit down, you won't be able to see anything. And someone will likely stand on you (by accident).

If it's an arena show, almost definitely not.

Plump82 · 21/06/2022 19:02

We're seeing them in Dundee next month in the Slessor Gardens and we'll probably sit about until they come on. I've been to plenty similar gigs and tonnes of folk sit around. When the gigs on, those sittings are usually right as the back.

Underscore21 · 21/06/2022 19:04

Is it the Earlham Park venue ? If so, when you actually Google the venue, it looks like everyone sits on their own camping chairs etc, unless you're in the few rows of venue chairs.

LimesandClementines · 21/06/2022 19:17

If it's Lytham Festival then yes there should be places to sit on the grass at the sides/back but not sure about other venues.

Hallyup89 · 21/06/2022 19:25

Outdoors you might be ok. I'm going to a couple of gigs next week that are standing indoors and I'm not looking forward to it (I mean, I'm looking forward to it, just not the standing part!) I'm going to try and find something to lean on, if I can.

Mablefly · 21/06/2022 20:28

You are way more likely to be able to sit somewhere outdoors than indoors. Have a lovely time!

OldSpeclkledHen · 21/06/2022 20:58

It's Longleat, so fingers X'd then! Thank You everyone 👍🏻

If it’s outdoors then you’ll be able to sit down.
