Unused fridge

When my brother was living at home he bought a mini fridge fro his bedroom. It wasn't one of those teeny tiny fridge. It was a proper small fridge with no freezer compartment. He is gone now.

My mother took it out from his room. Cleaned it. Wiped it down.. And stored it in the sitting room. It's currently unused. It's taking up space in the sitting room now because she insists on leaving the fridge door open at all times.

She always wants to freshen the fridge by leaving in bowls of baking soda and often with a half cut lemon too. I could be going about my duties and chores at home and I will often find mould lemons in that fridge.

How is an unused fridge stored. Can you close the door or does it have to stay open.

If it was up to me, I would sell the thing or get rid of it to someone else but my mother wants to retain as much of her son as possible.

Once it's clean and dry, prop the door open an inch or so and leave it switched off. It needs air to circulate and no added moisture.

Lemons are for fridges when in use but a bowl of bicarb shouldn't do any harm.

Small tub of ground coffee beans and close the door.

Worked for us in holiday homes that were closed over winter.
