Apologies if another thread is running re this one unlike most of the trains/tubes.
So, I've commuted for years to work, almost 25 (eek!) via tube/train/bus. Have had to put up with cancelled/delayed trains, packed tubes, increased travel costs and so when I did WFH for the past 2 years (now back in the office, 2 days a week, 3 days at home) I was ecstatic - if only because I saved so much money! In fact me and 2 close friends loved WFH and agreed we'd done the commuting/after work socialising in our youth, so didn't miss not doing it, or doing it in a different way these days when WFH.
I currently go to zone 1 via Thameslink and Southern trains which are running with less passengers (and also not striking this week) but Thameslink is always near impossible but better than it was, to actually get a seat. Tubes not too bad as have to get Northern line from Elephant and Castle.
Now I totally get that tube/train workers are worried about jobs, pay and conditions and less passengers and other issues, but lots of workers I know were looking to WFH pre-pandemic anyway. And from my past knowledge of public transport strikes, they're allowed to strike and can/do so when planned. I can't, I'm a PA/admin person, there's technically a union I could join but not much use so I've never bothered. Even when a close friend of mine, when she was bullied (she's an auditor) used her union and was very disappointed and disgruntled with the support she got - but that's another issue, how unions work for you or not.
I do know a neighbour who works for London Overground but unsure if she's in favour of the strikes.
So do you support the strikes or not? How's WFH impacted on your travelling if it's by tube/train/bus? Have you saved lots of money? I don't want this to turn into a bun fight please! And DM can do one if they want to publish this too!
