Holiday entitlement help

LoveIsAFairyTale · 21/06/2022 09:52

So I started a new part time job 20/06/2022.

Full time holiday allowance is 25 plus 8 bank holidays. What should my part time holiday be? I do 3 days a week Tuesday Wednesday Thursday.

Many thanks

Hi- this link will help

www.gov.uk/holiday-entitlement-rights/calculate-leave-entitlement

Similar to PP: www.gov.uk/calculate-your-holiday-entitlement is a calculator.

For 3 full days a week it gives...

The statutory holiday entitlement is 16.8 days holiday.

The employer:

  • can include bank and public holidays as part of the statutory entitlement
  • can choose to round up the holiday entitlement, but cannot round it down
  • must provide holiday pay during the statutory leave
  • can provide more paid holiday - this will be in the employment contract and is called ‘contractual leave entitlement’

Assuming your 3 days are 'normal' days the same hours as a full time person would do (not longer or shorter) and full timers work 5 'normal' days Mon-Fri (not some kind of weird shift system with longer or shorter shifts some of the time), you work 60% of full time hours, or 0.6fte. This means you get 60% of the full time holiday allowance, which is 15 days normal holiday and just shy of 5 days bank holidays in a 'full' leave year. With regard to the bank holidays, again assuming your company closes over the bank holidays and no-one is required to work, you only need to take a day out of your bank holiday 'pot' when a bank holiday falls mid week, as the majority of bank holidays fall on a Monday or Friday aside from Christmas and Boxing Day, so most years you will probably have some leftover bank holiday allowance, which you should be allowed to roll over into your holiday pot (as you should not deduct a day from the pot when a BH falls on a normal working day). Do remember that this year as the first year with the company you need to work out what proportion of a 'full year' you've worked as you'll only get that % of your pot for the first year, if your company leave year is calendar year January-December it's 50%, if tax year April - March it's 75% or if they do a 'personal' year from your start date of employment it's 100%.

As above. At our workplace as you work 60% of the time you'd get 60% of the full time holiday allowance plus 60% of the 8 bank holidays and would only need to use one of those days if a bank holiday fell on one of your normal working days. As most bank holidays fall on Mondays then avoiding working a Monday if you are part time usually maximises your holiday.

For a full leave year it would be â…— of the full time entitlement so â…— x 33 = 19.8 days (likely rounded up to 20 days)

This doesn't give the correct number of days as OPs employer offers more than the statutory minimum of 28 days

Depending on when the leave year starts will also affect how much leave you get this year.
