Horse v cycle helmets

Any reason my kids can't where their horse hats on their bikes? They've got jockey skulls, well fitted. Now outgrown their cycling helmets but not sure I can see the merit in both?!

I don't think there's a safety reason, riding helmets usually offer more protection than bike helmets, it's more that they are heavy and much hotter/sweatier than a bike helmet so much less comfortable to wear - my worry would be if you let your kids ride their bikes unsupervised will they take the helmets off when your back is turned?

Its the wearing cycle helmets for horse riding that would be a big no no

Why?

Not enough protection, the cycle helmets are too flimsy compared to the rigid jockey skull caps you use for riding - combination of the speed you can be going at on a horse (30mph plus) and the extra height compared to a bike, and the fact that if you have a fall the weight of the horse can then fall on top of you or propel you harder into the floor if you are bucked off so greater force than simple gravity. To be honest I wouldn't want my kids mountain biking or anything at great speed with a only flimsy cycle helmet on either but then I am paranoid about concussions...
