Failed my driving test but had so much going on๐Ÿ˜ž

So yesterday i did my first ever driving test.
fair to say it went horribly wrong but only at one point in the test or i would have passed. Now i cant get another for 4 months (i am signed up to cancellations) but im just so scared i wont be able to get them. I have a 14 month old baby which makes me feel so much worse. Can somebody tell me how they plucked up the balls to do their test again please?
An Issue that happened the day before my test;
However on friday the lady who looks after my child (family friend) rang my partner to say she didnโ€™t want to have my baby anymore because I apparently constantly dose her up on calpol. This is however not true it just so happens its what the doctor told us to do and she has called social services on me. As a parent i obviously kicked off and got made to feel bad because she is in her 70โ€™s. She said people constantly go up to her and ask what my baby is โ€˜dosed up onโ€™ when shes there and my girl sleeps 5 hours there but none of this has happened to me at home. Which is making me question a lot. So i cried about it just before my test.

Around 50% of driving tests end in failure (see the figures here: www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/car-driving-test-data-by-test-centre). Most people are having to wait 6 months for a re-test, not 4. So, you're doing ok relatively speaking.

Not sure I understand about the bit about the calpol. Children obviously only need calpol when they're in pain or have a high temperature, not all the time.

It sounds like you might be better off leaving your baby with a registered childminder rather than a family friend.

Blanketpolicy · 19/06/2022 21:00

Do you want to pass? The only thing guaranteed is if you don't sit it again you won't pass. Lots of people fail, took me 3 goes. You have the advantage now of a real test experience.

BigHuff · 19/06/2022 21:12

Fewer than half of tests end in a pass. I failed on Monday - you've got plenty of company!

Stay on ONE app - do not sign up to multiple apps and do not check dvsa for yourself if you're trying to let the app do the work. If both you and the app try to go for the same cancellation, neither will get it.

I managed to get a cancellation in the first week of July by obsessively refreshing the DVSA page - you can reschedule up to six times.

Good luck for the next one!

Yes i do! I wrote this the day after it happened so i was still pretty gutted but im feeling positive now!๐Ÿ˜Š

Calpol doesnโ€™t make them sleep anyway. Itโ€™s literally just paracetamol. So sheโ€™s talking pure rubbish. I hope her concerns get thrown out quickly.
Many people donโ€™t pass first time. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thankyou for your reply!
i have one for august now which has made me feel slightly more positive.
Yes i found the calpol thing very weird myself as i was only giving her it when she was poorly as instructed by doctors and i was only letting the woman know incase she needed to give it. My partner said she started to get really shifty when he mentioned my little one getting a urine sample?
Luckily i am a nursery worker myself so she now comes to nursery with me 4 days a week instead of just the one.

I failed 5 times. Dont give up!

Daisycat76 · 21/06/2022 19:36

Sorry to hear this! If it's any consolation, I failed 4 times and passed the 5th. Will be 12 years since I passed in November! You will get there. Keep trying.

clippety clop · 21/06/2022 19:40

Family friend in 70's is not someone I'd have left my child with. She was probably overdosing her on calpol as no child sleeps 5 hours a day. I would go and see your GP and ask for tests to be done to ensure your daughter is ok.

gamerchick · 21/06/2022 19:43

Calpol doesn't make them sleep. It's just paracetamol. It doesn't make any sense OP. Are you leaving something out?

Mariposista · 21/06/2022 20:03

Don't beat yourself up! You were feeling rubbish and distracted on the day of your test - next time will probably go much better. This lady sounds silly - she was probably looking for an excuse to give up working for you and couldn't find one so made up some claptrap about Calpol. Why would you complain about a quiet baby - sounds like a dream!

DomPerignon12 · 21/06/2022 20:32

OP, perfectly prepared people with nothing else going on have also failed their driving test because of other drivers, conditions or just a panic.
itโ€™s nothing to be ashamed of and quite frankly even failing multiple times doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re a bad driver.

I failed my first and recently passed second go. There are hundreds of threads on MN with useful suggestions, such as hypnotherapy (which helped me), beta blockers. You can also find test routes on YouTube and go over.

Best of luck and remember eventually you WILL pass. Not a question of if but when

This is exactly what i tried to explain to her as it is just paracetamol but with her being in her 70โ€™s maybe this is miss conception Iโ€™m not sure. She takes no other medication

It's typical of a lot of driving schools to send students for a test too early. It means they make more money when they fail and have to buy more lessons to take the test again. It sucks but it happens all the time. I had the same.

But I considered myself lucky that I failed the first time and I'll tell you why. I was so nervous that I nearly caused an accident. If the examiner hadn't been in the car I am sure I would have put people in the hospital or worse. That told me I wasn't ready to be driving by myself yet. If nerves affected my driving that much that I am likely to cause a seriouis accident, it meant I wasn't ready.

But I knew I was ready the second time around. I was still nervous, but was able to focus on traffic and my driving. I passed that time.

CaptSkippy · 21/06/2022 22:18

Forgot to add:

Things can always happen. But you should still be able to drive, even if you've had a seriously bad day.

Definitely, atleast i know what to expect last time.
i think what at happened didnt define it as such but i already knew i was going to fail. if it wasnt for the fact i couldnt get my gear in the round about i would have passed as it all went down hill from there.
how long did you wait for another test?

OP posts:
CaptSkippy · 22/06/2022 08:13

@mumlife18 I had to wait several months. I don't remember exactly how long, but it was a while. Although I took lessons in the mean time.
