Vinted - should I accept a parcel with not enough postage?

Anyone any experience of this?
I bought an item on Vinted and have had a note through the door from Royal mail saying the sender hadn't paid enough postage so I need to pay £3.50 to get the parcel.

If I pay this and get the item am I likely to be able to get it back from Vinted or should I tell RM to return to sender?

How much postage did you pay when you purchased the item?

MassiveSalad22 · 19/06/2022 08:00

If I wanted the item then I would!

ShadowoftheFall · 19/06/2022 08:00

This also happened to me. Following.

ChairPose9to5 · 19/06/2022 08:00

I would just pay it but let seller know that she needs to credit you 3.50
If she won't, you can review the seller to say that she didnt put enough postage

if you say to rm to return the item, you'll have to hope that she refunds you !!
Depending on price of item that sounds like more stress.

Turtleoo · 19/06/2022 08:14

It was only £1.50 with £2 postage, so if I pay this I'll be paying double and I don't even know if they will fit. I suppose the seller thought they could just put a large letter stamp on it but clearly it's thicker than allowed.

If I'm reliant on the seller to refund then it's a bit of a gamble either way. Does Vinted not support in any way?

The buyer pays the postage with Vinted, not the seller.

Did they list the item as a smaller package than they’ve actually sent? That’s the only way the postage can be wrong.

Findahouse21 · 19/06/2022 08:21

Is it a t-shirt or other tiny item, as £2 would only cover a large letter through royal mail which cannot be thicker than 2.5cm.

Dorsetdelight211 · 19/06/2022 08:26

You have to pay for postage, you won't get the postage refunded by the seller. Your options are to not pay the £3.50 and not receive the item however you also then risk not getting a refund.

Cuwins · 19/06/2022 08:26

I had this recently. Vinted don't have any role- if you click that you had a problem and it's the postage then they say you need to discuss with seller and advise seller should reimburse.
My seller offered to transfer me the money or post it to me, I actually decided not to bother in the end as I really liked the item.
I then gave only a 3 star review explaining what happened and that the seller had immediately offered to reimburse me. Seller was not happy blaming it on the post office and saying I had chosen not to be reimbursed- true but even if I had taken the reimbursement I don't believe the hassle with that situation deserves more than 3 stars.

Cuwins · 19/06/2022 08:27

Vinted say your other option is to refuse the package and it will be sent back then you will get a refund. But I don't know how that works- I guess the seller could refuse saying they haven't received it back

Turtleoo · 19/06/2022 08:28

It's a pair of shorts so clearly should have been a larger package, but I thought if it wasn't thin enough the seller would realise at the post office and would have paid the amount needed. I've only bought a few things on Vinted and this is the second time it's happened. I'll also need to drive to the sorting office across town to get it so it's costing me loads for what should have been a cheap item.

In my experience you have been really unlucky, I have brought lots of things and only had this once.
However you shouldn't need to go anywhere- you should be able to sort it online, pay the amount and arrange for re delivery

Sapphirejane · 19/06/2022 08:37

@Cuwins I can see why the seller was annoyed. There was an issue, the seller gave you different options on how they could solve it for you, you chose none of them and instead gave them 3 stars. I think that’s pretty poor of you!

Sapphirejane · 19/06/2022 08:39

@Turtleoo I think you’ve been unlucky too but I wonder if it’s a RM issue? I’ve bought loads but always select to collect from an Evri shop and this hasn’t ever happened. If that’s a convenient option for you, maybe try that in future?

The review had nothing to do with not taking the money though- even if I had taken it I would still have given 3 stars due to the hassle of them not putting the proper postage on in the first place. It was really obvious it would never have been a large letter.
I did say in my review that she had immediately offered to reimburse.

Changingmynameyetagain · 19/06/2022 08:41

This is why I don’t use Royal Mail on Vinted, the cost of posting is ridiculous.
I sell my kids clothes on there and I posted 2 T-shirts the other week and it cost £3.25 2nd class and the buyer only paid me £2.15, I’ve covered the cost but I only made 50p on my sale.
I've turned it off as a postage option now.

The seller made an error and then tried to rectify it. Personally I am of the opinion that people make mistakes and how they try to rectify them is important. Just think you’ve been pretty harsh there and just hope someone is nicer if you ever make a mistake on a selling site! And no I am not the seller, I turned off RM as an option.

Ah, will look into online option. In the past I've always had to go to the sorting office. Thanks

I had this and the seller blamed me (told me Vinted had ordered her to send the dress large letter when clearly it didn't fit, and that I'd not have bought it if it had been £3.50 more - um clearly living under a rock then for the last 15 years not to know how you send parcels).
I kept on at her till she sent me £3.50 (Vinted say it must be via PayPal) and suggested she'd rather do that than get negative feedback.
She huffed a lot and suggested she'd be flouncing from Vinted. No loss then!

Pancakeorcrepe · 19/06/2022 08:53

@Cuwins that’s very harsh! I feel bad for your seller.

Cuwins · 19/06/2022 09:00

@Sapphirejane
I wouldn't expect more than a 3 star review (satisfactory) if I made a mistake like that. If it's a 1 off mistake then it wouldn't effect your overall average stars. She gave me 3 stars in exchange and as all my other reviews are 5 stars it had no effect at all on my average.

Sapphirejane · 19/06/2022 09:08

@drspouse That’s a really crap response from the seller! I think the confusion lies in that Vinted suggests the postage size based on key words which is ridiculous as a dress for example can be a thin cotton summer dress or a puffy prom dress.

Vinted...again
So, long story short. Dd had 3 parcels to send on Vinted via Royal mail. Went to post office had parcels weighed and the lady stamped them all up. Paid the money then asked a question about a parcel we had to send abroad which she answered. We then walked away, although I had a feeling that something wasn't quite right. Fast forward to later I the day and we have realised we don't have the proof of postage receipt to send to the buyers....anyone had a moment and this has happened to them, if so what did you do? What can I do?
Thanks

I also had this once. There isn't much you can do. I messaged the seller and apologised, explained what had happened, in my case I posted 3 parcels and got given only 2 lots of proof of posting. I sent a picture of the cash receipt not because it proves anything but just because I had to put a pic on in order to press sent. Thankfully the parcel arrived fine

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/06/2022 19:14

I've bought loads on there and they don't always post receipts. Hopefully your buyer will be an honest sort and just post a review and that the items arrived when they receive them
