I was out last night, and can't understand why the barman acted so strangely towards me. 🤔

I was with dh, together with another couple, at a lovely pub with live music.
We all took turns going to the bar for drinks, but when I went the barman made me feel so uncomfortable!

He said (in front of various people standing at the bar, and in a mocking tone), "Oh-oh, shall I SERVE you? You might miss the MUSIC'! and nudged his friend, who also laughed. I laughingly said 'It's ok, they've gone for their break'!
He then eyerolled me, then turned to the others, saying, 'Does she look THIRSTY enough'?! More laughter from the others, then he proceeded to put ice in each cider glass, shaking them as if making cocktails, fixing me with a menacing stare. 😮

I didn't know how to react, so just stood aside and waited, paid and went back to our table. He didn't treat the other female in our group like this (I asked her), and was perfectly polite to the young girl in front of me, so I was a bit baffled!

Going up to the bar is hardly unusual for me, dh & I always take turns. I'm fairly quiet though, so maybe he picked up this? No excuse for it though, surely?!

Ugh. This would have made me feel really uncomfortable too, I hope it didn’t spoil your night. I think he fancied you and was being a pathetic incel dick ‘negging’ you as PPs have said. Would definitely leave a review about it.

Did you ask for three pints of misogyny and a packet of crap please?

Review.

superplumb · 19/06/2022 16:50

What a knob. I'd leave a review with the whole story including what he looked like so others can be aware

It does sound like sexual innuendos to me with the whole thirsty comment. It's like he's tried to get you involved in some wierd banter trying to get your attention. Whatever it was it was in poor taste. I probably would of said what the hell are you on about and told him to get a grip. That's just me though.
Men are idiots and come out with some right crap when they fancy someone. Agreed on leaving a review as it made you uncomfortable

def put that in the review

Maybe he mistook you for someone else? He might have thought he knew you/mistook you for a regular. Is it your usual bar?

Wisteriabloom · 19/06/2022 20:20

MrsMAgain - That's brilliant! 😀
Thanks for all your replies, the barman didn't completely ruin my night, but took the shine off it a bit. 🤔

I'm 50, and I'd guess this bloke was about 60. Thinking back I think these WERE sexual innuendos (which went completely over my head)😚. This probably frustrated him as not being on his wavelength, he didn't get a response so continued to bully me, to look 'big' in front of his friends. I don't think he was flirting, just probably bored and looking for a reaction. He picked the wrong person, which frustrated him.
No, it's not our local pub, we generally visit this one just a few times a year, and always had great service.
I have today left a message, with what happened and timings, and I'm also wording an online review. Fingers crossed he'll be pulled up for this behaviour. 🤞

Glad you left a message OP and glad you’re leaving a review. Wonder if anyone will call about the message.
