Clothes at car boot sales

Hello 👋

Does anyone have any experience of selling clothes (kids and adults) at car boot sales?

We’ve never done a car boot before so totally new to all of this!

Do clothes sell?
How should they be organised? I have a mixture of baby/toddler/child/adults
Would I be better off selling them in a different way?

Thanks!

I got rid of an absolute load of baby clothes in car boot sale. I washed and ironed everything then sorted into 20p, 50p and £1. I sold baby equipment too such as my sling, steriliser etc. Sold almost everything in 3 hours. Made £59 after paying for table.

I got a rail. And put on hangers. White labels 0-3,3-6 and the brand on them and price
Saved ppl rummage through as lots of ppl look for 'next, JL' etc
I got rid of 95% and i had 2 rails FULL!

I've made quite a lot selling on vinted recently, but you then have the job of packaging and posting.

If you are happy to get a small amount per item I think a car boot if worth a try.
I would organise them by size. One tub for baby newborn, one for baby 0-3 etc. For adults I would try to get hold of a clothing rail and have them hung up and price labelled.

They do sell but very cheaply IME, most clothes 50p - £1 an item, baby clothes cheaper 20p-50p an item or so many items for £1 etc.

It's a good way of getting rid of a lot of items at once but you would usually make a lot more money putting clothes on depop or Vinted or eBay but this also a lot more effort. It depends on your priorities.

Make sure there's nothing torn or stained as these won't sell at any price (put them in your textile recycling) and will put buyers off your other items.

You can just dump all the clothes onto a blanket or tarp on the floor or a pasting table if you have one, people love a rummage so don't bother faffing with rails and hangers. Making signs with prices "clothes £1 each" is a good idea or you'll repeatedly be asked how much your items are.

You could put children's clothes into boxes by age if you want.

Car boots are a fun way to make a bit of quick cash and get rid of a load of stuff you don't want, make sure you bring some coffee and a picnic and a chair and make a day of it in the sun.
