Very plus size bra fitting?

LifeInsideMyhead · 17/06/2022 21:57

So I'm very plus size (sadly).

How do I choose a bra size to order and try on? I could literally be trying tons so I need a starting point!

I know size 40 is too small. Also 40 with "extender straps" doesn't fit...

I lnow some theory from when I was slimmer about "going smaller on back size and up a cup"etc but I literally have flab so I cant have it squished tight as it hurts.

Help!

I'm a 44C and find the Asda pullover bras really good. XL fits me and they're actually quite supportive. I like the crop top looking ones with the lace overlay or the soft ribbed ones.

If the back feels tight, have you tried doing the band test? Try the bra on back to front tucked right up under your boobs to see if the band fits. Once the band fits then you can fit the cups, if a bra feels much too tight but the band test is ok then you need to try a bigger cup size.

The problem with long line bras is when you are fat and squishy the area under the long line isn’t the same diameter and they usually roll up. I also hate Molke bras, they are difficult to get into and they look awful under clothes. Ok to wear in the house but not outside.

I’d echo a PP and try the boob or bust page and Facebook group, the admins are brilliant and they can offer fit check advice in the group.

I can't understand the love for Molke bras on MN apart from the fact they look hideous they look like the most uncomfortable things on the planet to get on and off, must work for some folks though as plenty love them.

Molke do a flexi bra now which fastens like a traditional bra, that may work for you.

Instead of ordering a whole load of random sizes, just get a tape measure and measure yourself!!

You will still probably need to order a few to find a style/brand that fits comfortably but at least you will have a starting point size wise.

LifeInsideMyhead · 18/06/2022 11:03

Of course I will measure myself 🙄. Hence in my post saying I'll need to order either size and either cup fitting - but that ends up being quite a few.
Also measuring when you are very overweight is a fine art as if it is tight to the body that can be painful - hence asking for help which lots of people have given 😍

Thanks again to everyone - there's lots to look at and think about!

Yes the longline probably would just "roll up" as I do have much "squish"! As much as I'd like not to be large I still need to feel decent when I go out!

The band test - great idea will bear in mind when they arrive.
ODFO - sadly nowhere near.

It's a bit hard ordering now I've realised there is actually a choice - I think I need to pick one style and order a few in that style :) Will give it a go!

Also in response to "just measure" - there are clearly different ways to measure for a bra (M and S vs bravissimo for example) and as a larger lady was looking for any advice on fitting before I had a go and ordered!

I recently got fitted.

First I did boob and bust. Then went into yours and looked for that size. Tried it on and it was all wrong for me.

Went back out and when I was picking up lots of sizes lady behind till asked if I wanted fitting.

She was lovely and helped me find a bra I liked in a size that fitted, so I bought the bra in every colour they had.

Yours have shops?!?! I thougt they were an online store. Genuinely might be worth a drive. Shopping near me is rubbish.

I'm a bra fitter. If i seen you I'd know your size. But doing it yourself is impossible. Best to try to get fitted somewhere, but not m&s.

FayeGovan · 18/06/2022 11:56

What size are you wearing @LifeInsideMyhead . What brand is it. Is the band size tight. Are rhe cups ok or too small with gaping or too tight with boob coming over the top. If you knew the make and name of what you are wearing and the size that would help.
