Summer is so loud!

I'm autistic but I'm sure some neurotypical people who aren't lucky enough to live in a detached house in the middle of nowhere must feel the same.

I'm currently sat near the patio doors and I can hear the following:

A drill
A strimmer
A lawnmower
Someone's music
A little plane
Some other power tool that sounds like it's cutting metal

I actually love summer, the warm and all the nature but every year I just feel overwhelmed by how loud everyone gets! Not like I can just shut the windows either.
I've just looked over next door and seen they have bought a hot tub too 😔

Anyone else suffer?

I’m not ASD. But I’d like to add to that with;
Dogs that bark non stop, and my neighbour opposite who is in his garden between 8 am-10 pm without a break and talks non stop all the time.😣

l share your pain.

That must be hard
Dog barking is such a jarring sound

The neighbours more annoying than the dog! Low level non stop droning.

I used to feel the same, it was one of the main reasons we had to move house. I felt like I could hear every word of lots of garden conversations, every trampoline creak, every up and down and in and out going on around me. I sympathise with you, the only way I could relax was to have good headphones on with an audiobook playing, even that didn't always drown them out.

I hear you! I totally understand.

We will have to move at some point I think. Can't afford it at the moment though unfortunately.
I'm glad you were able to get away.

I don't mind at all the noise usually, but there is a couple children a few houses down from us who sound exactly like DS. So when he's in bed and they're still out playing, I think it's him shouting for me and spend half my evening running up and down stairs.
Why can't kids just sound different!

emmathedilemma · 17/06/2022 14:17

Can i add the neighbour's kids.....don't get me wrong, I love that they all play out together rather than being indoors on devices BUT we have one who is a shrieker which goes through me, and despite them living all over the estate they always congregate in one particularly area right under my windows. They're also largely unsupervised and sometimes up to no good!

missdemeanors · 17/06/2022 14:21

I'm not autistic but other people's noise really winds me up. Our key criterion when the kids grew up and we had the flexibility to move was to find a detached house with no close neighbours. Many new build detached are slap bang up against the neighbours garden so you have to put up with every damn sound they make.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2022 14:23

It’s actually easier to keep your house cool if you keep the windows shut and curtains / blinds closed until the evening .

I've heard that but I've got cats and no cat flap. I'll be up and down all day if I close everything as they can't settle when its warm. Constantly in and out.

No clue if I’m autistic but all the above plus next doors builders dismantling and throwing scaffolding poles and bolts onto my drive has sent me over the edge. I’m jumping out of my skin at. every. single. thud.

dameofdilemma · 17/06/2022 14:37

I'm pretty tolerant of most noise during the day - I get that children want to play outside, someone might need to do DIY etc.

But...
Dogs incessantly barking...seriously? I don't mean barking occasionally, I mean on and off for hours, outside. Its not good for the dog and you're just not doing anything about it because either you've left them alone or you don't care.

Late night or early morning noise outside - you know you're disturbing people and you don't care. Therefore you are a dick.

Really loud music for hours. It's perfectly possible to enjoy music outside without it being full blast for hours on end. Non-dick people manage this.

Its loud music that sets my anxiety off. I don't understand why people have to be noisy.

It depends on your neighbors. I'm surrounded by much more people now and its much quieter than where I lived before.

Oh god yes, that would have me jumping out of my skin too.
The sound of clanging metal is torturous.
