Train strikes - how likely to be affected on day in between two strikes

My DM and I are going for a day trip to Oxford next Wednesday by train. Neither of us have travelled by train for at least 20 years, and she's now getting worried about getting stranded there (60 miles from home). The train strikes are due the day before and the day after. Any seasoned train travellers around who might be able to reassure me/her that the day in between will be ok? 🙏

There WILL be widespread disruption on the "no strike" days between because the trains, staff, etc won't be in the right place, shifts will be messed up, etc.

There WILL be cancelled/delayed trains, particularly at the start of the day.

Main lines and major routes should at least have quite a few trains, but rural/branch lines may really see a reduction in services, lots of cancellations, etc.

I agree, there will be disruption.
I think that's why they alternate, maximum disruption for minimum loss of pay.

Check the GWR website. Likely to be a Sunday service in many areas. So it may be less frequent but still operating.

It probably won't be okay though
you get the odd lucky moments in days like that, but they are rare

how is she feeling about standing on a packed train, and waiting a long time for one to turn up?

everyone I know who can avoid public transport next week is doing just that.

Hmm, think I will see if I can move the date for the tour we are doing in Oxford, and then if I can, move the train tickets, and hope they don't have another strike then!

There will be massive disruption. Most have said Sunday service at best.

Very wise.

I hope you have a good time when you go. I have fond memories of my last visit, I was with my late father and it was one of those trips where everything was just really fun. Smooth transport helps with that too, so you're doing the right thing.

and the guide at the Ashmolean was fabulous - she knew everything!

They're doing it spread out purpose to strike the minimum amount of days but cause maximum disruption. You're making the right choice changing the date.

Have managed to move it all to a few weeks time. Hopefully there won't be another strike. We are doing a walking tour of Morse, Lewis and Endeavour sites. My mum is a massive fan.
