Induction job on island no extraction?

Hello,

we are just finalising our kitchen and the induction job is on the island. I wondered if anyone has this set up with no extraction (no hood or down vent) and if so has it caused any issues? The room is quite big with plenty of doors and windows.

we didn’t have extraction in the old kitchen as it would appear when taking it out it wasn’t actually going outside! Ha

I so rarely use the extractor fan I wouldn't miss it, but what is useful is the lights inside.
So my fan is a very expensive light.
If you can get the lighting right you could be fine without the extractor.

I'd want the extraction because our fire / smoke alarm is so overly sensitive

I have a down draft extractor on my island, works brilliantly. Could you not try that?

Get it changed to a heat alarm, does the same thing but doesn’t panic over burnt crumpets.

I'm a bit disappointed. 😁
Based on the title, I thought you were having an induction (training) on an island for a secret organisation but there are no extraction plans if it all goes wrong.

Sorry, I don't actually have an answer for your real question.

I'm with @Branster but I do have advice - we have an induction hob on our island and we're got a fantastic spaceship type extractor fan that comes up from the counter and is a down draft. I would 100% recommended.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 17/06/2022 12:36

Don’t building regs require a certain volume of extraction in a kitchen anyway, though it doesn’t necessarily need to be over the hob I don’t think. I cook a lot, so I don’t think I’d want a hob without an extractor…cooking steak for example would quickly result in a smokey kitchen!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 17/06/2022 12:41

@Branster i thought the same. I was expecting a Jurassic World issue here.

toastofthetown · 17/06/2022 12:44

We have our induction hob on an island and very rarely use the extractor fan. The only time is if I’m shallow frying, and even then I sometimes forget. I don’t think I’d miss it. Our smoke alarm is nearby and quite sensitive, but we do get a warning before it starts blaring so we can mute it.

magicstar1 · 17/06/2022 12:55

I find I do have to use the extractor over our island if we have a few pots / pans on at the same time. Otherwise the windows steam up.
Could you get one of the ones that have the vent in the middle of the induction hob? Ikea do them.

Not just me then 🤦‍♀️

Was just nosing to see what the ten people on Mumsnet knew about this situation 🤔🤣
