I'm really suffering. Taking Clarityn one a day- can I take anything else on top of this?

Ask your GP for Fexofenadine, it’s really helped mine. Also a nasal spray which can help with eyes as well as a stuffy nose. Someone on here recommended hycosan night ointment which isn’t actually for hay fever but I found it really helps!

You can get Fexofenadine over the counter now (or on Amazon) - it's a lifesaver!

PineappleWilson · 17/06/2022 10:40

I use a pirinase nasal spray every morning, and a standard over the counter tablet at night, plus eye drops 2 or 3 times a day. I've found in recent years that just the tablets don't work for me.

Goodness me yes, I really suffered when I was living in London. I was based near Chancery Lane and there were this trees in the neighbourhood that just killed every single year! The only thing that worked was Benadryl (the Cetirizine one for 12h), taken every single day before leaving the house.

Oceanus · 17/06/2022 10:43

these' tree not this!

Pollution will irritate your already over sensitive airways.
Go to a pharmacy and get some advice and more medication , take precautions ie sunglasses / hand washing and next year start taking your hay fever medications a week or two before your symptoms start.

Steroid injection.

Holakaleidoscope · 17/06/2022 11:21

Vaseline around my nose and eyes is the only thing working for me today!

You can get fexofenadine over the counter now - it’s called Allevia.

Im taking one at night and then I use Beconase nasal sprays the morning. Seems to help.

You can take up to 180mg of fexofenadine apparently and the tablets are 120 so if I get really bad again I’ll cut one in half and take one and a half. Haven’t needed to yet but that’s my plan.

Also Opticron eye drops are good.

Thalatta · 17/06/2022 11:32

Thanks, everyone. Just back from Boots where the pharmacist was also recommending Allevia so I shall see how I go with that. Can't wait for the rain!

I had fexofenadine from the GP on prescription along with the Avamys nasal spray - both lifesavers. Unfortunately I can't use either now as I'm pregnant but they really helped last year xx

Yodaisawally · 17/06/2022 11:35

Fexo is now available in supermarkets. Nasocort is also now available. Game changers. I double up.

BrownTableMat · 17/06/2022 12:24

Beconase nasal spray and opticrom eye drops work well for me. I’m sure you can take them with oral antihistamines.

BiscoffSundae · 17/06/2022 12:31

My gp wouldn’t give fexofenadine she said to get it otc but I’m aware they can give a stronger one on prescription I’ve tried it and tbh it’s still bad I couldn’t even sit in the park with my kids yesterday I was suffering so much, it just ruins summer for me

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/06/2022 12:36

Ds is taking fexofenadine in the morning with eye drops and nasal spray, showering as soon as he gets home then more eye drops, and more nasal spray more eye drops and montelukast before bed.

You can get everything except the montelukast over the counter. Pharmacies should be everyone’s first port of call for hayfever.

Take one and a half

If hayfever is still bad after using everything available daily for at least 6 weeks you could consider the injection which is available privately and works for up to 6 months depending on the individual

DianaBarry5 · 18/06/2022 16:51

Fexofenadine has stopped working for me after 12 years. How do I get a private referral for injection? Does it have to be through GP?

HairyKitty · 18/06/2022 17:00

No referral needed, just ring up any private gp/clinic that offers it. Injection is called Kenalog
