Any way to deal with child's stained teeth?

My 9 year old has 2 stained teeth (front, upper, few patches of brown colour). He has suddenly become self conscious about it and wants dentist to fix it. Dentist saw the staining earlier this year, did not say much about what could be done, just said he would keep an eye on it, said it could be due to chromogenic bacteria. Unlikely to be food or hygiene related because scrupulous about brushing teeth, no coke, tea, ribena, etc . Is it worth bringing next dentist appointment forward and asking if anything can be done to improve the look of the teeth?

I just wanted to comment and say try not to be overly concerned. In the time I was bringing up my family fluoride tablets were being pushed to parents. All my children took them as they were said to harden the teeth against decay. My eldest son is now a man of 41. He has a mild learning disability and I am always reminding him to clean his teeth! He has mottled brown marks on some and I am now realising this is likely linked to the tablets. He could have these teeth veneered if need be and possibly this might be an option for your child.

When I get dark patches on mine I dip a cotton bud in bicarbonate of soda and rub it on. It seems to clean the marks really well when nothing else does.
(though I’d do a quick Google to check it’s ok first!)

Is it just two teeth or all of them? Has he changed toothpaste recently?

You can’t get veneers on the NHS for cosmetic reasons

My daughter has this too, the dentist said it's just light staining (same as you she doesn't drink tea/coke/coffee etc so not really sure what's caused it) and that the hygienist can remove it for her, so we have an appointment booked for a few weeks time.

Dentists are crap at the moment. If your child is really self conscious the only way to get it off is if your dentist cleans them… if however they “wont do it” you could pay privately to see the hygienist
