Do you wear the correct bra

Im a bit stuck and its made me think how many women really wear their exact bra size? I was measured as a 36b a few years back but I need some new bras as the elastic have just worn in mine so I ordered some new ones from tu. The 36b are far too tight and make my boob fat spill out at the side. So then I tried this Bob method of measuring that a friend recommended and It says i was a 38dd so I ordered some and different sizes and they don't fit either and now I just can't figure out ive currently got a 36d on and that does feel better/comfy but still makes me have some boobage out the sides is that good or bad ? im so confused now what to do I don't think we have anywhere local to us that I can be measured at either by a professional I feel I'm literally guessing here what to do so how many of you really wear your exact measuring size bra

I live in the same two Lidl sports bras that are vague sizing (think 16-18).
Works for me.

FawnFrenchieMum · 16/06/2022 19:41

Ask for help on the BOB Facebook page? They seem pretty good at helping.
I am wearing the right size for the first time in years! I went to Bravissimo. It’s made soooo much difference!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/06/2022 19:42

Yes. Bravissimo for me all they way.

I think a lot of it comes down to the style of bra as much as the size. I found BOB method worked for me but only in a balcony style. Might be worth having a go with a few different styles in the same size too?

ChandlersDad · 16/06/2022 19:45

Yep. Measure 28 round the ribs, wear a 28 band. Makes a massive difference

YungDumbThrills · 16/06/2022 19:53

Bravissimo 100%. They fit by eye and by trying different styles and sizes.

JLQ1020 · 16/06/2022 19:56

Different brands of bras will fit you differently as well as different styles
I swear by Bravissimo I tend to buy 3 different brands from them and I'm slightly different size in each one.

squareframe · 16/06/2022 19:58

I didn't get on with bravissimo...maybe it varies by branch! Ended up with a bra that digs in and feels way too tight even though when I told her that she told me it fit fine and it would "give a little". £36 I won't get back 🙄

MsOllie · 16/06/2022 20:01

Yes, as I need support with my boob size
Wear a 34 band, size 16 and it's comfortable enough to sleep in

RaraRachael · 16/06/2022 20:03

I wear virtually the same M and S t-shirt bra in different colours. They're awful and gape at the sides. I've been measured in M and S, done the BOB measuring and yet another. Each one came up with a different size and I've sent away for about 6 different bras that were useless. I'm really at the end of my tether with saggy horrible bras.
I see a lot of people rave about Bravissimo - do they have a measuring formula?

Orangio · 16/06/2022 20:04

No. I'm 31" chest. Wear 34" bras as the 32" ones feel like they're going to chop me in half. Have tried many brands, all painful.

dementedpixie · 16/06/2022 20:05

I wear 36GG or H depending on brand/style. Was measured as 40C at one point by M&S which was obviously very wrong!

First is getting the band size and then you work out the cup. The middle bit of the bra should be flat between the breasts. If it sticks out the cup is too small. Same with overspill.

cherrypiepie · 16/06/2022 20:09

It's hit and Miss as all all shops and brands and size are different and within brands too which is very frustrating. Different styles have different fits but knowing you size is a good starting place.

I do believe the "dress size plus 20" is roughly for a band size and they try a variety of cups sizes. What is your under-bust size and dress size? Over-bust size?

I'm size 16 and wear a 34f from Matalan.

Didn't like the bra from bravissimo as gapped at top and was expensive so sent back.

RaisinGhost · 16/06/2022 20:14

I don't believe in the whole "correct bra size" idea. A bra is just clothes, it's up to the person wearing it to judge how it looks and feels and decide whether it fits or not. There is no one perfect size as the sizing isn't the same between brands, and the fit also depends on the fabric and the style.

Afterfire · 16/06/2022 20:19

In bravissimo I measure a 30GG but I gave up buying anything that size as although they make my boobs look amazing they’re all so fucking uncomfortable I want to burn the bloody things. And yep someone will be along in a second to tell me either I haven’t tried xxxxx bra, because a well fitting bra is comfortable. Well I don’t think they are.

I wear a 34F for comfort. Yeah my boobs may be a little wobbly and whatever but I’m not scratching my eyes out to remove it as soon as I get home. I also wear a lot of stretchy crop top type bras. I find as I’m getting older (I’m mid 40s) comfort is everything to me and I don’t really care if I look a bit saggy or wobbly.

Exactly this. We’ve all become brainwashed with it all. A bra size is just a starting point, like any other clothing.

User000111 · 16/06/2022 20:22

bob works if you find the right style bra for you. They have a guide on their site to figure out if you have top heavy or bottom heavy breasts, helps to figure out which style to buy eg balcony, full cup, half cup, plunge x

PurpleDaisies · 16/06/2022 20:23

Mostly. I’ve got older bras that are a bit big on the band but wearing them on the tightest setting is fine.

TiredyMcTired · 16/06/2022 20:23

I have so many uncomfortable bras that I’m wondering if the right one actually exists. I used the Boob or Bust measurement tool and came up as a 32H, so toddled off to Bravissimo where they measured me and agreed that size. Bought a bra, and wore it for a few hours but ended up with cuts in my skin where the wire at the side dug in so hard it was agony. I managed to get a refund. I’ve read up so much on how to size correctly etc but it is very confusing.

The only bra I am comfy in is an old one from Debenhams 😩

I reckon that the only way is to look for the sizing guide for the brand you are buying to see if the measurements match yours.

buckeejit · 16/06/2022 20:28

Ooh yes, the right size is sooo good, but I'm really overweight with big boobs so need to support. The soft bralettes seem good if comfort is your main factor.

I'd love a day of being small & going without a bra. Think that would feel great. Other man's grass etc

Dizzywizz · 16/06/2022 20:33

No bra all the way for me. Bras make my nerve pain flare. If it’s a night out I wear a dress size stretchy bra, or a vest bra, otherwise none. Seriously, unless you have to wear one just don’t. I’m a 38dd and just flop around.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/06/2022 20:36

It’s very expensive, but the best bras I ever had were from Rigby and Peller. I went in wearing a 36C and came out with a 32E. I bought two and they lasted years before the lace finally gave up.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 16/06/2022 23:18

Ditched bras years ago.

Will tolerate a stretchy cropped top/bralet thing if I'm going out in public .

Svara · 16/06/2022 23:25

I do, I measure 29 so wear a 30C on middle hooks new, tightest old. Wish the supermarkets would catch up and stock smaller sizes!
