Is this travelling too light?

An overview night stay in London to accommodate 2 days of sightseeing, an evening in the West End and parkrun.

I'm thinking I'll wear a casual dress, denim jacket and my running shoes and pack running shorts and t-shirt, change of underwear, toothbrush, deodorant and make up. Put the same dress on after parkrun (and a shower!) next day. That way sightseeing can be done with an ordinary "handbag".

Will I regret not having more choices? I'll wear nice new running shoes that coordinate with the dress 😆

I'd worry that I spill something on the dress or its gets a bit sweaty.

TitInATrance · 16/06/2022 18:36

I’d take a clean dress, or skirt and two tops. I’d want different shoes too, probably flip flops.

Depends how hot it is and how much sightseeing you’ve done in the dress on the first day. If it’s got sweaty or grubby you won’t really want to put it on after your shower. Can you fit in a second dress?

Also if it’s hot the denim jacket can’t be squeezed into a handbag or tied around waist - I would consider swapping for a cardigan/jumper. Unless I’ve misunderstood and you’re not trying to carry it all with you!

Can you use a rucksack instead? Will you not want to wash your hair after running? Hairdryer/straighteners? Depends if the park run is the morning after the theatre or the morning before.

Yes but there'll be a hairdryer and shampoo at the hotel.

I would want 4 outfits, especially in warm weather, maybe I am just super sweaty?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/06/2022 18:44

I’d want another change of clothes

Purpleavocado · 16/06/2022 18:45

If its as hot as today, I'd definitely want a different outfit for the next day.

Summersdreaming · 16/06/2022 19:25

I think you need a 3rd outfit for the theatre at least.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/06/2022 19:28

London after a hot day? You might appreciate a clean dress both for dinner and the next day. London can get very muggy.

If its cooler it might be OK.

A small backpack will be useful for water too.

Threetulips · 16/06/2022 19:29

Night clothes as well

I’m packing the same for two days!

jeans denim jacket and sandals
change of undies
clean T-shirt and dress - to go out in.

if it’s boiling when I go im going to swap the jeans for light trousers.

I mean London has shops and if you actually have to buy a new outfit … it’s not the end of the world is it? All those lovely maker stalls and all

tired17 · 16/06/2022 19:40

Could you wear your running t shirt with shorts/skirt the first day then wear your dress in the evening. Put on the same tshirt for your run with your running shorts and then back into the dress for the 2nd day. That would mean only 1 more item of clothing - shorts or skirt for the first day. When travelling light I normally change clothes before dinner and then wear the next day because it's normally the walking round all day that gets them dirty/sweaty.

skybluee · 16/06/2022 19:47

^ What tired17 says. Or I would just take another vest top/T shirt and pair of shorts. They will be barely anything to carry as they are so light. That gives you another outfit for one of the days, so you don't have to re-use the other outfit. Then the dress is for your evening out. I don't think you'll want to use the same one dress for 1. travelling and day one sightseeing around London 2. evening out to theatre 3. day two sightseeing around London and travelling back.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 16/06/2022 20:04

That's how light I pack OP. I did similar for a trip to Paris. Its so nice to be unencumbered by a larger bag.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/06/2022 20:16

It’s very hot and sweaty at the moment -

As a minimum you will want a clean outfit for day 2, and clean underwear for the evening on day 1, but I don’t think you will really want to wear a dress you’ve been sightseeing in all day in the evening.

I’d take something like 2 tops and a light skirt or 2 v light dresses you can roll up, plus an extra change of undies for the evening. You will get that in a big handbag.

I say this as a light packer and not v sweaty person.

ClinicallyProven · 16/06/2022 21:22

I probably won't have an opportunity to change between sightseeing and dinner/theatre anyway. Surely it's not usual to have a day out and go on into the evening without changing?

Summersdreaming · 16/06/2022 22:18

Nobody is stopping you, I just wouldn't want to myself. Enjoy your trip!

MinglingFlamingo · 16/06/2022 23:26

I'm doing this next week. Likely to have a an hour or so at the hotel before the theatre so going to take an outfit for the theatre if I don't have time to wear it oh well. Definitely taking a new outfit for the next day, as I may well get hot and sweaty and it getting grubby. Only taking one pair of shoes / sandals though

TheWayoftheLeaf · 17/06/2022 00:13

You'll be fine unless you're particularly smelly. I'd maybe pack an extra dress as it's a heatwave

She won't. It's pretty casual nowadays
