Buying books for primary school

Ds3 is about to leave primary school and I'd like to buy something from our family as they've been educating my dc for the last 17 years!
They're currently growing their library so I thought books would be a good idea and have asked school if there any particular age groups/genres they'd prefer.
I'd like to buy maybe 20 books. Any ideas where the best places to buy are? Would prefer not to pay Waterstones prices...

Tbh I think you'd be as well to speak with the school. Say you want to spend £50 (or whatever on the library) are you better donate to the school for them to buy or what books would they like you to purchase.

Great idea! I'd try an independent book shop as they can often advise you on appropriate books and may well give you a discount if you tell them it's for a school. There's one local to me that's run by a former school librarian, though she's had to move online following a leaking roof at her shop. snugbookshop.co.uk/

Thanks. Yes, I've already spoke to the school and they're going to let me know what time of books would be useful.
Thanks for the link

I bought The Lost Words for our primary school when DS left, because it's just beautiful, and it was very, very well received - the Head told me that it would be used to inspire class projects right across the school.
