Trying to find information about the rail strikes next week

I've been searching online and can't find specific information. A family member needs to travel on the 23rd and it's a journey that's run by one of the companies who are striking. But will it be every train on every route etc? How do I find out before I book a coach? Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

Look on that train suppliers website . Mine has the info on there that they will be running one train an hour on the strike days .

PetersRabbitt · 16/06/2022 11:06

Why are they striking?

Gymnopedie · 16/06/2022 11:21

OP I'm sorry but the train companies are urging people not to try to travel by train from the 21st to the 26th. The strikes mean that none of the engines will be where they're supposed to be to run a normal service on non strike days, so there will be severe disruption and many trains won't run at all.

I agree, don't take the train. The network will be mostly non-functional and while trains will run, you can't guarantee they won't be hours and hours late or mostly cancelled. I'd book a coach now while there are seats. My partner works for a train company and seems confident the strikes will go ahead.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 16/06/2022 11:29

The network that serves my area has basically told people to not expect a service from 21st-26th.
Id not even attempt it

Vapeyvapevape · 16/06/2022 11:45

23rd is a strike day so I doubt any trains will be running.

WearyLady · 17/06/2022 11:02

I don’t want to attempt to travel but I’m finding it very difficult to find out how I can change my journey plans or get a refund. I’m travelling from the south coast to Yorkshire (which I do periodically to visit my mother in a care home). My tickets purchased on The Trainline are made up of one off-peak return (Thameslink Brighton-London) and two advance singles (Grand Central KingsX-Bradford). I don’t want to change the outgoing legs (booked for 23rd June) without also being able to change the incoming legs (booked for 6th July).
At this stage, Grand Central aren’t even publishing their timetable for the 23rd June and advise only that there’ll be a limited service and that I should check on the day. Given the distance I’m travelling and the fact that there are multiple legs involved, I’m loathe to leave it ‘til the last minute. On the other hand, these were not particularly cheap tickets so I don’t want to lose my money or end up paying a significant amount to make changes.

WearyLady · 17/06/2022 11:05

Also the suggestion by train operators to travel the day before or up to two days later doesn't help in my case because I'll still be within the period of disruption.

MintJulia · 17/06/2022 11:22

I'm a regular with South West trains and they've emailed saying not to travel on strike days, or on the days in between because the rolling stock will likely be in the wrong place and disruption is likely to extend.

balalake · 17/06/2022 12:14

Check the train company website. Is it really essential (going to a funeral or hospital for example)?

WearyLady · 17/06/2022 12:41

Grand Central is now showing timetables for the strike days. It seems my train is still running.

Japanesejazz · 18/06/2022 21:22

The signalmen are on strike so it may state that some trains are running, these trains will be the only ones using the line at that time
To clarify all rail staff except drivers and senior managers are on strike next Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Drivers received a bonus this year
Senior management have had a large pay rise
No other railway workers have had a pay rise for over 3 years
The highest pay grade going on strike earns £33k pa
Dont get sucked into the government bullshit about the average wage on the railway

Aspergirl77 · 18/06/2022 21:56

The highest pay grades on strike in the SE can earn around £55k on a flat year.

Japanesejazz · 18/06/2022 22:06

Can earn 🙈
I appreciate your sentiment love but unfortunately not every railway worker lives in the SE with your lovely up to date technology and barriers
Many of them work on lines where you get beaten, stabbed or shot if you ask to see a ticket

My trains on Thursday 23rd are all shown running as normal. That can't be right as they're involved in the strike (northern)

That's on Trainline. The train company website and timetables tell me nothing else.

Japanesejazz · 18/06/2022 23:02

Trainline are not involved with the railway

Trainline are not involved with the railway

I'm not sure what you mean

Trainline has now updated. Roughly one train every couple of hours, stopping entirely early evening. I might need to drive in that day.
