Friend dumped at 44🙈….

oh, I sooooo need to get a grip! One of my closest friends of the last 20ish years has just essentially dumped me - & I need a short sharp ‘shit happens, move on’ lecture. We speak often but see each other (covid permitting) once or twice a year when we stay at each other’s houses for a night or so. Have also been on family holidays at least 8 times together. She’s announced it’s no longer convenient for them to all come to us/us to them so she’ll deign to see me in a certain city for a meal (2 hours ish) - she lives 1 hour from the location and I live 4 hours away - she wants me to travel 8 hours for a 2 hour catch up?! Maybe she’s decided she doesn’t like my kids (my 14 yr old likes sport, hers likes the pub🤷🏼‍♀️) but whatever, I’m really insulted. Thought we had much better foundations than this and I thought much better of her☹️

Lol sounds like my dbil suggesting a meet up, 4 miles from him, 115 miles from us!
I just literally wouldn't respond and assume it's run its course

To a 20 yo friendship? You just wouldn't respond at all? 😳

At 14, the kids are a bit too old to hang out with their parents’ kids if they don’t share interests or like each other all that much. Send a friendly message to say that a four hour drive is too long, suggest something else and see what she says.

It May just be that you might not see each other much for the next couple of years.

@EarringsandLipstick
Possibly yes. I know that sounds a bit mercenary but I really had a light bulb moment a couple of years ago and stopped doing all the running in my friendships. I have a core of friends, probably about 8 that I have known spreading from childhood into my 30s that I have kept. We meet up every six months or so and it's great. I cut those who were only loyal of their need for me. So, only heard when their life had gone to shit or they wanted my life. Never gave anything back. Those I just stopped contacting and focused on finding new friends. Can't tell you how much happier I am.

Life equals advice

I can understand why whole family meet ups won’t work any more.

Equally I can see that the meal suggestion doesn’t work.

I think in your shoes I would counter suggest an overnight stay - either you stay (solo) at hers , she stays (solo) at yours, or you both stay in a hotel in the middle. See what she says. That will tell you a lot.

I think you are right , by suggesting a completely ridiculous place for a meet up is ghostzoning you . Her kids are probably moaning about having to meet up with you and yours and I think maybe you were more invested in the friendship than she was . I would personally go no contact and wait and see if you hear from her . You will soon know what her real intentions are. All seems very hurtful though op x

She hasn’t dumped you Confused. PP probably correct in thinking she’s realised you’re judgey about her kids
