Hello
I'm looking for recommendations for simple iPad games for my 2.5 year old. Clueless and have no idea what to look for. Thanks.

@mamax123 oh piss off. You clearly haven't read my posts properly and you're massively judgemental and unhelpful.

i have read your post property and also read you comment about wanting something to keep him occupied for more than five minutes 🥹

Cbeebies playtime island for definite. And at that age we had a piano app which she loved.
We also download episodes on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer for long car journeys.

Just a word of advice about using iPads in cars. A box of tissues flying off a parcel shelf at 70mph has the force to do serious damage (big bruises at the very least) if it hits someone (e.g if a car stops very suddenly in an accident). A heavy iPad could be lethal. Make sure it's very well secured in a safety approved headrest mount. The same goes for any toys and other loose items in the car of course.

Oh also, a good thing we've found for car journeys is a Montessori dressing board! It has different fixtures (button closing, zip closing etc).

Just remember for car journeys everything can be used as a projectile, iPad is great for occupying kids on journeys just for this reason!

Who the hell gives their child 100% of their time? Confused That's physically impossible.

throughout the day when the child is just wanting to be played with and explore

Gruffalo and room on the broom have game apps - gruffalo has a good snap game on! Audiobooks on ipad also a winner for long journeys - peppa pig stories on repeat.

doadeer · 15/06/2022 21:30

Have you got Prime Video?

The Gruffalo, Room on a Broom, Snail and the Whale, Tiger who came to tea, A snowy day, Highway Ray

All nice short films - easy to download

Very judge replies here personally we love the Bimi Boo games. My toddler loves them - much better in my eyes than watching tv if you/they need some downtime. He's learnt colours and shapes playing them, much more interactive than sitting watching tv.

faffadoodledo · 16/06/2022 07:45

I suffer awful travel sickness and can't look at my phone let alone watch a movie or play a game in a car. My 26 year old gaming obsessed son is the same. If your reason for doing this is to distract from car sickness - just don't!!

Not judgmental, even if you may not like my answer!

Albgo · 16/06/2022 07:59

@faffadoodledo I don't think it's car sickness, he just doesn't like being constrained in the car. He's a very active little boy and loves being outside - I think he just finds the car frustrating and boring. Which to be fair it is.

Some upside down saucepans and a wooden spoon

EvergreenForest · 16/06/2022 08:11

The Julia Donaldson short films are available for free on bbc iPlayer if you don't have Amazon prime. They are great and fairly short. My son loves the snail and the whale one

Honestly if he's super active and likes to be out. I'd stick with audio. You may have to suffer enjoy them too. And make stops for a bit of a runaround.
We used to regularly drive from London to west cornwall to west cornwall to visit our parents when our children were that age. And story tapes (we're old!) were fab. Download some onto the iPad and don't give him the device. He'll soon be in his own little world, gazing out the window.

Crocky · 16/06/2022 08:35

I know you’ve said he doesn’t have travel sickness but just beware if he hasn’t looked at the iPad on a journey before. Of the four of us in our family we all travel fine generally but for three of us looking at a screen while travelling results in nausea and eventually vomiting.

QuintessentialHedgehog · 16/06/2022 09:15

Agree with others warning about potential for travel sickness with a screen (unless you've road tested it before without problems?) even if he's not usually travel sick, so approach with caution! Audio books and nursery rhyme CDs/streaming would be a safer bet if they might occupy hum. Sympathies - 2.5 is a nightmare age for long journeys.

EvergreenForest · 16/06/2022 09:22

Just another thought (and this may not be possible!!) we have a longish journey coming up for a weekend away with our 2.5 year old.

He's equally a nightmare on these journeys. We can check in from 4.30 Friday and check out at 9am Monday. We may be crazy but we're going up at 6.30pm Friday with DS in his pyjamas so he'll fall asleep, and we're coming back Sunday evening for the same reason (as also packing up and getting out by 9am with a toddler and newborn is too hard!!)

CounsellorTroi · 16/06/2022 09:42

I remember my nephew used to love playing with an old wallet with some of his dad’s old (expired!) credit cards in it.

doadeer · 16/06/2022 13:20

Where are these games? On the app store? The ones like the gruffalo?

Albgo · 17/06/2022 09:23

@doadeer yes on the ap store. I found them by searching for Julia Donaldson. I think they were a few pounds each
