I’ve got what I think is athletes foot from wearing a plastic boot/brace following surgery.

I’m using lamisil but the peeling/flaking else. I’ve got stitches on my ankle which haven’t felt scabbed yet so can’t use footner but what on Earth can I do?

I soaked and scrubbed yesterday but back to square one today, so I just need to wait for it all to grow out?

It’s so over the sole of my foot and the dead skin is really hard

Is it itchy? Could try something antifungal on it, like clotrimazole cream or even thyme or tea tree essential oil (diluted in a carrier) rubbed in a few times a day.

That looks like Athlete's foot - try an OTC treatment from the chemist.

Try lamisil once spray.

Thanks, I am using lamisil cream but just wondered for digestions on fire to remove the flakes. Without being too grim they keep catching on my bandages/carpet

I don’t know what to advise on the flakes but rather than a cream which just gives the spores a moist environment to grow I would suggest clinisept spray. Used twice a day it’s made a huge difference to my athletes foot which was pretty ingrained.

Thanks, I’ve just bought a generic one off Amazon, looks good for other things too

If you aren't allergic to dairy, I'd try:

  • Greek yogurt (live cultures, no added sugar) foot mask - slather and leave on for 15 mins
  • rinse, then:
  • warm salt water foot bath (1/3 cup salt in foot basin) 15 mins
  • rinse again, dry carefully, see how it looks and feels
  • if no irritation, add your lamisil once it's fully dried.

Again if all looks ok, do the same again daily and see how you go - hopefully will help it clear and heal.

Disclaimer: not a podiatrist. This is just what has helped in this house!

Do you happen to have coconut oil at home?

When my brother's athletes foot wasn't responding to normal remedies, his doctor suggested he try it - it was the only thing that made a difference.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 16/06/2022 07:45

Ooh thank you both

Also if you haven't already, look at getting an antifungal laundry rinse and put it in for every wash load so you don't keep reinfecting yourself- the spores can get into your socks / clothing / bedding and keep spreading around. Pop your shoes through the wash too if they can be washed then out in the sun, and/or get an antifungal shoe powder if they can't be washed.
