Are you struggling to get a job/ secure an interview?

Just what the title says! My very good friend is highly qualified in her field but is finding it impossible to get a new job because of the sheer volume of applicants for every job that comes up. Not helped because most jobs are remote so she's competing again basically against everyone in the country. She's becoming increasingly depressed about it ( she's honestly applied for about 300 jobs) and just can't catch a break. What are your experiences?

Total opposite.

Get approaches for jobs regularly via linked in. Difficult to hire decent candidates. Certainly not overwhelming numbers of applicants

That's worrying. I'm about to start looking after a long break away from being employed (working but freelance stuff out of my field which fitted with young kids)

What is her field? Maybe she needs her applications looked at? Or a CV rewrite?

Hard to say without knowing the field she works in but working with a recruiter can often really help.

This. It's a slow week if I don't get three or four calls and I stopped responding to most things on LinkedIn. I've just done reviews for some of my more senior staff and I know it's the same for them -- it's made us be very competitive with bonuses and raises this year.

Oh wow that's so intriguing actually! She's very high up in IT , currently in a small company but she's wanting to get into a big corporate company. She's 45 not married no kids, a total career woman so she's quite determined. All she ever gets told is that her cv is flawless but it's just unfortunate that someone with more experience or someone that works within the company etc etc always seems to just get ahead of her. I'm sure the right thing will come along eventually for her, just a waiting game

If she's looking to get into a larger company, she's probably better off finding a recruiter that works with that company to advocate for her directly. You can have a flawless CV and still never be seen by HR thanks to the ATS software filtering applications.

It's taken me over a year to get a suitable job even though I've applied for zillions. I've had to take an entry level role in the end, instead of trying to secure a more senior position. I can't keep on applying like this, so I've accepted it for a more straightforward life.

That's interesting @halfsiesonapotnoodle I'm sure you were fed up applying too. What is your field?

I’ve found the same. I’m in administration with some executive assistant experience and am applying but having no luck. It’s quite disheartening but I suppose companies have their pick of people.

My ukrainian guest is struggling to find anything. Excellent english, graduate, good work experience. Lidl and Costa turned her down despite saying they were wanting to support Ukrainian refugees. She works in graphic design but we aren't in the S/E so opportunities a lot more limited..

That's difficult to define! Ex vet nurse, very experienced in reception roles, also worked in civil service.
