Delayed trains - any online record of these to evidence claim?

On the Jubilee weekend, I went from London Euston to Wales - which involved a couple of changes to get there.

Two of the trains were delayed. The outbound from Euston left on time but arrived late. And another train I caught had a late departure (tannoy announcements). In all, my delay was over an hour and with missed connections etc.

I duly submitted my claim via the Delay Repay scheme only to be told there were no delays on my trains. I promptly appealed, giving more specifics of the delays only for the appeal to be rejected as I was to,d again there were no delays.

Now I did not imagine the delays and the transport that day was chaotic with cancelled trains “due to staff shortages” and general delays.

My question: does anyone know of an online resource which records historic train departure and arrival times? (I haven’t been able to find anything for that particular route).

Sadly this only goes back x7 days and I am outside the x7 days. It never occurred to me I would have to prove to the train company that their own train ran late.

Very helpful to know of this for the future.

I’m disproportionately annoyed at their response denying the delays more so than the delays themselves!

I honestly think if your train is delayed and you bought a ticket on the app/website you should get an automatic refund in the case of delays and cancellations, but instead they male the process so complicated. Which is why when I was commuting I would take a screenshot of the train line website on that very day showing the delay or cancellation. Its an absolute joke.

I'm a commuter into Central London and I've had the same experience over the years. The train companies have lots of technicalities they can use to get around not compensating you. For example, they drive faster to make up for lost time so they are just within the the time they don't have to compensate you, they don't count missed connections or they say the delay wasn't their fault (not sue if these are official reason, but you get the idea).

I've never appealed, because it's only ever been a couple of pounds, but I've never understood why some of my claims have been denied over the years, when I have been delayed.

For future ref, the Trainline app informs you automatically what the delay is and what compensation you're entitled to, you just have to confirm you'd like the money!
I had 2 delays in April, and both just came through automatically.

Try this, @MyrtlethePurpleTurtle You can go back 3 months. It’s the one I use and on a habitually crap service it’s been invaluable. It might require a bit of puzzling out, as it’s quite comprehensive, but you can wrangle it to show the journeys on your route for the dates you need.

You don't honestly believe trains just dawdle about then speed up so they are within 30 mins of their scheduled arrival time, do you? Or do you think they go at line speed then break the limit if they are 32 late, to get them done to 29? Confused

Just submit your claim and copies of the tickets through delay repay and click the more than an hour option - we've never had to submit proof of the actual delay.

@frydae train companies absolutely make every effort to catch up including changing the line arrangment - ie. a non-delayed train can be moved to the slow line so a delayed train can speed down the fast line to make up time and arrive within the 30 minutes. Obviously much cheaper if both trains are delayed under 30 minutes than one being delayed over 30 minutes.

I got a full refund on a ticket a couple of months ago through Trainline. It was more or less automatic. The Train Manager was announcing repeatedly that we would be entitled to compensation for the delay (over an hour, broken down train ahead, I think). Avanti West Coast.

Years ago my husband complained to Southeast Trains when his train home didn't stop at our station as scheduled. I don't imagine his was the only complaint but the response he got was that he was wrong, their records showed the train had stopped there.

I think you took my post out of context. I was replying to the person who thinks they simply 'speed up' to avoid having to compensate passengers, as if they are just taking their time for fun. I do have an understanding of how the railways operate, in many areas they have single line, not even an up and down, and it's rare here to find 4 lines anywhere but into mainline stations, and even then a lot just have 2.

A few years ago a train went through my local station without stopping. I wasn't on it, but people in the local Facebook group were and talked about it. Even a guard on a train I was on talked about it, yet the rail company denied it. It took a concerted Twitter campaign to get them to pay out for delay repay!

As for speeding up to avoid compensating passengers, what used to infuriate people on my line was skipping stations. Everyone realises that it make sense to get the trains back on time, but they had a habit of skipping stations in the wrong direction at commuter time and therefore inconveniencing many more people than if they skipped stations in the other direction when hardly anyone is going the other way. Also only deciding once people were on the train and the doors were closed that they were going to skip stations, my son once got on a train in Basingstoke when he was at sixth form college and only once it had started moving did they say it wasn't going to stop until it got to London!

Since covid and a less busy timetable, they don't seem to have as many problems, though by all accounts it was a bit of a sh*tstorm yesterday.

Yes, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g -it’s the gaslighting and outright lying that baffles me! I mean , ow does your DH actually prove the train didn’t stop?!

I had an issue when I claimed for both my own and my kids tickets after a an evening when a 45 min journey took 3 hrs (and that was only because a neighbour drove 10 miles to come and collect us - his wife was also on the same train) Delay repay said I had already claimed for the journey and wouldn't let me make 3 claims for the same day. I emailed customer services and sent proof of my tickets and approved it and sent some vouchers.
